How many cups is one portion?

The feeder does not have a fixed “cup” measurement per portion, because the actual volume dispensed depends significantly on the size, shape, and density of the food being used. For example: Small, dense kibble will yield less volume per portion. Larger or lighter pieces (such as freeze-dried food) will take up more space per portion. Instead of a preset volume, the feeder allows pet owners to set meal plans by the number of portions. Each portion corresponds to one consistent rotation of the feeding mechanism, and users can program the feeder to dispense up to 10 consecutive portions per meal, depending on their pet’s needs. We still recommend a simple at-home test for accuracy: 1. Fill the feeder with the food you normally use. 2. Program it to dispense 1 portion. 3. Collect and measure that portion using your own measuring cup.

I was so excited to get the automatic feeder for my 70 pound yellow lab. I loved that it had a camera to confirm that food was dispensed and consumed as well as a speaker to speak with my girl. Upon arrival it was easy to set up on the app and connect to my phone. I did have trouble with determining how much she needed for a meal. I wish that the chart told you how many cups were in a serving. With a little math I was able to figure out approximately how many servings my dog needed. She eats 1.5 cups. I weighed the 1.5 cups and used the conversion chart in the manual. 1 serving= 15g/0.03lb. The feeder will do up to 12 portions which should be 180g. I set the feeder to 12 and put one serving in the feeder. It gave me about 3/4 of her serving. 12/.75=9 so I set the feeder to feed 9 servings twice within two minutes of each other. The bowl is just big enough for 1.5 cups. My dog is a good eater so will have no problem eating up the first serving within two minutes of the second feeding. I would say if you have a larger dog that eats more than 1.5 cups per meal this feeder isn’t for you. I love that it has a camera so I can make sure that she gets both feedings. The feeder was easy to set up with step by step directions. I had it working in just a couple minutes. As I said figuring out the meal portion size was the hardest part but easy enough with a little trial and error. I did find that she wanted to push the feeder and even tried to push it over. I wish the lid locked on to ensure the food wouldn't all come tumbling out if she was able to tip it over. The other thing to keep in mind is that the feeder needs an outlet. The cord is not very long, approximately three feet. Overall this is a good feeder but I would say that it would be best for animals smaller than 70 pounds. I liked that the app texts you when the food is dispensed successfully or not. Only once have I had an issue when the food did not dispense, and it did let me know. All in all I think this feeder is a good solution if you need to do a feeding when you will be away.

Best feeder for multi or older cats

I have 5 cats, one is 21 yrs old and i want to be sure hes eating his dry food. This works great for that! I can set times for it to drop kibble and it alerts me

We received the smart feeder and set it up that evening. It took me awhile to figure everything out with the app and I did get a little bit frustrated because I didn’t understand how to use it correctly for a day or two but Dexter took to it immediately! It is really neat and being able to see who is at the dish and being able to talk to them through the feeder is really fantastic! The dogs were so confused when I tried that feature out. They kept looking at the bird like she was doing all that talking lol! Being able to adjust the camera to different angles is amazing and now we can call every one over there if we want to check on them when we are out. I did have trouble finding the part of the app where it keeps snapshots of who was at the dish and I missed Beaujack and Trudie looking to steal a snack when we were out because I definitely would have scolded them as they know better than that. Before getting this amazing feeder I had to pick up Dexters dish when we went out and he would have to go hungry. I was feeding him small amounts several times a day as he would be asking for food or cookies quite often but he didn’t always finish what I gave him and I couldn’t keep track of what he actually did eat. Now he is getting used to a routine of getting food approximately when his dog siblings eat but then he gets another meal later in evening and he is no longer waking dad up at 6 in the morning for snacks. I would totally recommend this for anyone who is away from home a lot or if you were going away on vacation and want to keep a good eye on your fur kid. The only thing that I can suggest for an improvement is a scale that would measure the amount of food if there are leftovers and you had a cat that would need some portion control. We are super happy with this product.

Compact but convenient

First impression, it’s great! Such a great little feeder. I’d recommend for cats and small dogs, not sure it would work well for big breeds of dogs. Love the camera

Love the camera and over all the ease of setting it up and assembling. You can customize your feeding schedule as well as the amount you want dispensed. The manuel includes a nifty suggested portion size for your pet. Overall I’ve enjoyed this automatic feeder, it’s made our lives easier!
