Purchased this jacket in a med for a 27 lb male Frenchie. I mention that he’s a male because so many of the jackets have straps that interfere with their male “part”! This jacket has a wide band that goes underneath and then at the chest/throat area, you can cinch it up tight enough to pull the belly strap forward so it doesn’t rub him raw down there! Lincoln had a great time swimming with it! Great quality! Easy to adjust, put on, and remove! Only negative is there is no latch for leash.
If your dog is near the top of the range for a given size, I definitely recommend sizing up! Our pug has a 19" chest and weighs 18lb, so we ordered a Small, per the sizing chart. We could not even buckle it around his chest at the maximum strap lengths. Chewy was super understanding and accommodating: sending us a refund, and not even requiring us to send this one back. We're going to order the Medium for him, because it does seem like a quality product otherwise. Side note: our other dog has the Frisco brand jacket, which we also bought from Chewy - that one seems spot on for sizing, and is also great quality. The only reason we did not order it a second time is that it is currently only available in one color, and our dogs are different sizes, but close enough to confuse which jacket is for which dog. We just didn't want to have to go through this guesswork each time we got them dressed, so even a different brand label on the outside helps us see whose is whose. If you don't want to mess with possible sizing issues, I'd recommend the Frisco life jacket first.
This is a nice jacket, however, based on the sizing chart, the Large should have fit my dog. The part that wraps around his chest barely connects. (the velcro) So I ordered an XL - and that wrapped around him and there was not way for the velcro to even connect. I appreciate that they allowed me to donate the vest to a shelter, which is what I will be doing with the other as well.
If your dog is in between sizes, I’d recommend the larger size. The piece that secures across the neck is quite short and seems slightly disproportionate to the other measurements. Otherwise it’s a well made life jacket.
I have a Toy Poodle that weighs 9 lbs and purchased a XS (after completing the measurements per the chart), but it was too small. The second one is a Small and it fits perfect. The life jacket is easy to put on and has very solid attachment points so I feel confident it will be secure. The handle (picture shows two stapes, mine has one), is great for a quick pick up and to maneuver my pet where he needs to be.
Ok, so I haven't actually used either yet. Our big day will be tomorrow. I just wanted to say the life jacket fits great. Ruger is a very good and strong swimmer. I just want to be extra careful, this will be his first and hopefully many more kayaking adventures. The camp pad is so he doesn't have to lay on the hard plastic. Anyway, I just hope I can keep him in the kayak.. because he really loves water.
I already had two of these for my older dogs, but needed a smaller one for a new puppy. They are really great. The dogs swim all over the pool in these and the part under their chins really holds their heads out of the water.
We took our Black Lab river tubing and she wore this life jacket and was comfortable and we had a way to pick her up onto the tube. Worked great!
2 uses for less than an hour each time amd its already falling apart. The grey straps are starting to unravel.
This life vest works great for my dog! It only took him about 10minutes to jump in and test it out. The quality is great and is true to sizing.
