We weren't initially big fans of "training collars"... Until we needed one for our male Rottie that likes testing our patience with his dominance. The collar ("receiver") and the remote were effective and durable... until almost 18 months to the day (similar to other reviews). We purchased this in late Feb 2022 and last week the collar stopped responding to the remote. They're both properly charged. I disconnected the cable from the battery in the collar, reconnected it, and attempted to re-pair them to no avail. While this was effective before now, I think this is rather pricey for lasting a mere 18-months; and, I won't be purchasing this again.
My black lab puppy would not listen to the command "come" even when she knew it. She kept taking off on me. I finally broke down and got this. I was so against shock collars but after her almost getting hit by a car I was willing to try anything. What a game changer! She only needed on shock on a low setting until she started listening. After that all I needed was the tone or vibrate.
This training collar is way better than I expected. It's my second one. I used the first one for 4 years before I lost the controller. Then I found the controller. Someone found it where I walk with my dog and hung it at the gate. It hung out there in all kinds of weather and still worked! Do I'm still using the first one and keeping this one for backup. Also, my dog is a lab, so he's in the water all the time with the collar. I love the collar and you can't beat the price.
This training collar is just what we needed, we have a now 1 year old Male Rottweiler that was hard to handle he wanted to play hard with me and would tear my arms up (granted I’m 61 years old) with this collar he has learned what no means and very rarely do I need to actually shock him. The collar has three choices, Tone, vibrate, shock. Tone first he usually gets it, if not then vibrate, after vibrate he knows what happens next and usually will submit. Now after a couple months we hardly have to use it. But like any Puppy he gets excited and may need correction. The collar and remote are rechargeable and I only have to plug in once a week. I like this collar because some collars only shock and I didn’t see the need for that every time.
My order came exactly when I needed it. Everyone at chewy really cares and are very concerned about every order.
I bought this for my mastiff who continually wanders to the neighbors house who has other dogs. Before i got this collar, i was constantly running over and grabbing her and walking her home. I love this collar since it has the option to add the prongs for shock. I learned the collar does have to be snug for the both the vibration and shock settings. She responds to just the sound/beep alone. I ended up having to add the prongs after she ran out to the road when another dog was walking by. They are on for safety but i almost never use the shock function. This has made my life so much better. I was very hesitant on getting a shock collar and dont like the idea of an invisible fence. The only think that can be improved is that the buttons can inadvertently be pushed, such as when I bend over. She has inadvertently been 'beeped' and i feel bad when it happens, as she does not like the sound of the collar. I advise to watch video on how to use these type of collars. I only put it on when she is outside and she walks right up to have it put on. Best investment ever. Its been over a year and the collar still works wonderfully. It stays charged for a good amount of time. Highly recommend!!
This worked amazing for my dog I couldn’t ask for better. Easy set up. Also it last all day!
Purchased Nov 2021. The one metal piece broke off. We keep at 1 or 2 and only use the tone button to call our pup in. It now shocks him when using the tone button. Poor puppy! Do not waste your money!
I purchased 2 of these. They seemed great at first. After about 2 months one collar would only stay charged for a few hours. Then it stopped holding a charge after using the vibrate setting a few times. The second collar had the little pin inside of the charging port snap off. So now it's done. And I am back to purchasing 2 collars again. These are nit made to last.
I got this collar to reinforce off-leash training with my Mountain Cur / Lab mix and he responded very well to the sound. Be careful though, the shock option seems extra strong if your dog is wet, which our dog often was from playing in the lake. We ended up going through two of these collars, both stopped working after a few weeks to a month so we will be switching to something a little more durable and reliable. However, I suspect that if your dog isn’t super rough and tumble and in and out of water this might work fine for you. It’s probably great for backyard off leash training and such. All of that being said, Chewy is always excellent about their return policy so I’d say go for it and give it a try. If it doesn’t work out you can always get your money back and try something else.
