I wanted the cage floor to be the metal grid and the dropping tray to be under it, so that when the rabbits poop, their poops will fall through the grid. I had a rabbit cage that has a plastic tray floor which I lined it with either shavings or hay bedding, but it gets nasty fast because rabbits pee and poop a lot. I was basically cleaning it out daily or every other day. Then I realized if I had a cage where the droppings can fall through and collected by the tray, I could just pull out the tray to clean it out and it would be more sanitary and convenient. This one is almost there. The floor grid was too short because it has to rest on the dropping tray but this means when I want to clean out the dropping tray, I have to remove the rabbits first because the grid sits on the dropping tray. So I decided to zip tie the floor grid to the bottom edge of the cage and I just put the dropping tray under it without inserting it on the rail meant for it to sit on. This is not a perfect solution because the urine and droppings can fall outside of the tray, and the tray often gets moved somehow, so I ended up putting a cardboard box under the cage to help catch stray urine and poops. I like this cage size because it's small and easier to maneuver taking the tray outside to clean. The rabbits like the loft but they prefer to be under it. I set it quite low to give the rabbits a sense of security. The picture has it up high which means the ramp is very steep. My rabbits would not go up the ramp when it's that steep. Lowering the loft means it's easier for them to get up there and also giving them a sense of security as mentioned before. Overall I really love how this cage looks. Sure, I would have loved to get the bigger cage, but costwise it nearly doubles this one. Also, it's not as practical as this one. This cage is only good for 2-3 small rabbits like Holland Lops (3-4 lbs). Any more would be overcrowded.
