Diesnt even touch the top part just loves tesring up the carpet part. Would love if there was seperate parts I could buy

the scratching post itself is wonderful and my cat loves it. The problem is that the base is too small and too light. When my cat tries to use it it upsets and scares him. I had one previously that he used for 3 or 4 years, but the base was about double the size and heavier.
