can i use this fountain on a USB outlet?

Yes, the cord actually has a USB plug, so to plug it into a wall outlet, you have to have a charging block like you use for your phone.

does this need to be plugged in to operate?

I wanted to get a light-weight water fountain for my pets to use upstairs, instead of the small bowl of (often hairy) water I used to trip over. My elderly toy

I wanted to get a light-weight water fountain for my pets to use upstairs, instead of the small bowl of (often hairy) water I used to trip over. My elderly toy dog was a bit scared of it at first, but I drank out of it and he immediately got the idea. Very easy to keep filled, and much pleasanter for dog and cats.

Cats Hate this

We can start off with the fact that the top piece is a loose cover that the cats refuse to not know off. We still cannot figure out what the purpose of this piece

We can start off with the fact that the top piece is a loose cover that the cats refuse to not know off. We still cannot figure out what the purpose of this piece is and why it is not secured. Not that the cats know it comes off, we tried to tape it on so they would not play with it, so they just knock the whole thing over. Waste of money, DO NOT BUY THIS.

The fountain came without the AC outlet transformer, so is unusable unless one already has one available. The outside of the box lists this component as included. Incidentally,

The fountain came without the AC outlet transformer, so is unusable unless one already has one available. The outside of the box lists this component as included. Incidentally, on the outside of the box the fountain came in, the word, "Quiet," is misspelled as, "Quite," which is a bit amusing.
