I was traveling for a couple of nights for the first time in a few years, and saw this as an option that would let me check in on my two cats who have gotten used to me working from home all day. I didn't have much time to play with it before setting up but it was easy, after downloading the app and connecting the camera to wifi, it had a quick update and was good to go. It was nice being able to check in regularly, they enjoyed the laser when I tried it and I like that it has an option to play randomly to keep them entertained. Some cons - it is a bit expensive, and the app freezes a lot. The laser sounded really loud when I was playing with it from my phone, but I still need to try it out now that I'm back and see if it was just from the mic being right next to the motor. I'm not sure if my voice was coming through distorted or my cats were just understandably terrified of their missing owner's voice cooing from a box on a shelf. The night vision is a bit grainy but works, and while the app does have a paid version but a free account lets you view the live feed and was all I needed for regular check-ins.
I bought this camera and straight out of the box it will not connect to your devices. I have been on the phone with the company troubleshooting and still nothing. Very disappointed since this was rated one of top camaras for pets.
I’ve had the Petcube bites for a few years and love it! When I saw they came out with the laser option, I knew my kitty would love it. My package arrived the next day! I was able to set up within 10 minutes with only user error, and after an initial firmware upgrade my kitty was happy as ever! I’m able to touch base throughout the day while I'm out and about or at work, being able to move the laser around on the screen and interact with my kitty when I’m not home is so satisfying. I can even speak to her and hear her in the app!
This camera/laser pointer does the job - we can keep an eye on our kitty from afar using the app. It’s nice that the camera has a wide angle lens and “night vision” so we can see okay in low light. I can talk to her and hear here, although I believe both directions are delayed. There are a couple of challenges that are frustrating enough that I’d get another camera if I knew of a better alternative... The app works but it often freezes, so I spend a few seconds thinking my cat has stopped moving before realizing I need to restart. I also don’t have the ability to zoom the image, purportedly due to “low connectivity” even though I could not have faster internet. That’s a bummer. The image is very grainy, especially in low light, so I often have to guess that kitty is in one place or the other based on a fuzzy dark spot. Finally, the laser pointer is VERY finicky - it doesn’t move smoothly or quickly, which means kitty tends to stare at it rather than chase it. It does help get her into a specific spot so I can see her, but I wouldn’t call it a “game.” Honestly I’m still debating if I should return the Petcube 2 for a cheaper model, but it does do the basics so I’m holding out until it really drives me wild.
I was having trouble getting connected to this thing. I dug deeper into the instructions and found out that to get to the website you have to have the Apple app. But you can only get the Apple app if you have I-Phones, A Mac of some kind, OR if you have a computer with Windows #????.. I don't have any of this!
Full functionality only available to users who also pay $15 a month. What a disappointment that none of this is stated plainly and up front.
Order Number: 314988037 I was really excited for this product as we have to leave for the weekend to a funeral and wanted to keep an eye on our kitten since he's only been with us for a few weeks now (12 weeks old). Product arrived 30 minutes ago. There were finger prints on it and was loosely packaged (cord was unwrapped with the twist tie just laying in the box). This looks like it was an already returned and defective item that was put back on the shelf and resold to me. Simply put, after talking to PetCube direct, they determined it is defective as it won't even turn on after trying several tested and working outlets, my computer with the USB cord, and reset button on the back. I'm understanding of a defect in manufacturing (made in china), but feel that restocking an opened product with smudges on it is just poor and lazy quality control whether it was Chewy or PetCube. At least maybe clean it and test it? After speaking to a rep and hearing the standard policy of exchanges (understandable), it doesn't help much since we won't be getting the product for the original intent of watching the kitten while we were gone this coming weekend. They could have at least offered to do something else for the inconvenience, but didn't think twice about. I'd be happy to update my review once this has been addressed and I've had the experience of actually using a functioning product.
I just received my Petcube and I love it. Care was taken when packaging, so my Petcube arrived in perfect condition. Setup was easy and it's small and doesn't take up much space. I love being able to watch my dogs when away from the house. Now and then I'll say hello; it confusing them, but they like hearing my voice. I don't use the laser because my floors are slippery, but I tried it out and it really is a cool feature. Especially if you have a cat. I recommend Petcube to everyone pet owner.
Love, love, love this for chatting with, and spying on, my 3 dogs while away from the house...BUT it sucks so much data while on, that I have to unplug it while home or internet is too slow.
100% in love. I have both Petcube bites and Petcube Play 2.
