This is a comparison review between Petkit and Litter Robot automatic litter boxes. TLDR: Litter robot is a better product, at least for us. More details below: We have been looking for an automatic litter box for our multi-cat house. We narrowed down our options to this one and Litter Robot 4. The reasons for converging on this products were: 1) the availability of camera for better tracking of litter habits, 2) the (claim of) litter analysis, 3) the opening being not to high and similar to other covered litter boxes, 4) being cheaper, 5) 2 different sifters with different hole sizes. We got the two boxes one week apart from each other. What we noticed: Positives on PetKit: 1) One big advantage of Petkit is that it records how long your cat spent in the box. It provides details like "Your cat X spent 1min 38seconds in the box". So, if anything is off, you can detect it faster. Litter Robot does not do that. 2) Petkit is cheaper and has a built-in camera. You can get a camera mount and a camera for Litter Robot, but on top of it being more expensive, these add even more to the expenses. 3) You can pull the drawstring on the liner without opening the litter can, and save yourself from smelling the built-up odor! Positives on Litter Robot: 1) Of 3 cats, only 1 used this one consistently. The other 2 did not use it at all. 2) The litter analysis is basically just analyzing the pictures of the poop. Nothing fancy or scientific about it. If you catch your pet while they are doing their business, your visual analysis is as good as the box's analysis 3) It is noisier compared to Litter Robot 4) The disposal system is a bit dangerous. The globe rotates upwards and backwards, then onwards and downwards, leaving a very narrow (if at all) opening. It does not detect the cats quick enough to stop immediately. One of our cats had his head inside the narrow opening when it was rotating downwards, and it still kept rotating for 1-2 seconds before stopping. Litter robot rotates right and left, so the opening never narrows. Besides, Litter Robot's detection is immediate. So, it makes it safer for the cats. 5) Litter robot is more user-friendly. Assembly and dessembly is easier, and cleaning is much easier. The globe is mainly just 1 part in Litter Robot, but in Petkit, you need to pull it apart. And some parts can only be wiped, and not washed. 6) The app is easier to use. It provides information in a succinct way. Also, it gives information about how full the litter can is. Issues with both: 1) Both start rotating after a cat hops inside, even if they do not go. Sometimes, they get in out of curiosity. So, there is no way of telling how many times a cat actually used the box. However, since Petkit provides you with the length a cat was inside + pictures, you can make sure by checking those. 2) They are not odor-free as they claim. Especially when they start rotating, the litter can is exposed and the built-up odor escapes. It is not fun to be around when that happens! 3) You cannot go without emptying the litter can as much as they claim. First of all, it fills up faster, and the odor becomes unbearable after a certain period. You cannot leave it there longer. 4) The odor lingers inside the box even after deep cleaning. It is not too bad, but it does not go odor-free. Overall, this box is a good one on its own. It keeps your hands clean, and there is less need to scoop. But, if you have a bit of a bigger budget, I'd recommend Litter Robot. Caveat: These are our observations based on limited time we used these products. I am sure there are things we have not discovered in any of these products. We returned the Petkit after a month, since we preferred Litter Robot, which we have had for 2 months now. Good luck with your search! Happy (not) scooping!
