Both of my 9 year old cats love this scratching pad - this is the first one that my Jessie has used!
Murder mittens liked it well enough but the seams in the middle started coming apart on the first day and the layers of material are not bound together, so the top slips around even after taping the bottom to the floor. Not built to last or stay in place. Not the quality I've come to know and expect from Chewy items. Will be going to another kitty.
This came folded up and will not ever lay flat, which completely defeats the purpose of the toy. I've had it pressed under a heavy table for a week and the folds will not come out. I was hoping that this would be a fun "landing pad" type thing for when he has the zoomies, but he doesn't understand what it is and has zero interest. He tried using it once, but was confused because it doesn't lay flat.
My cat immediately took to this mat. She loves the scratcher feature, and uses the mat to rest on while watching TV. It's her new "favorite" place.
I was looking for something to replace the cardboard scratchers my cats love but which I don't love cleaning up after and constantly replacing. This seems to fit the bill, and as a bonus, all four of my cats have enjoyed laying on it as well, like a cat bed. It looks a lot like a tatami mat, pretty classy for a cat scratcher! It's easy to vacuum clean, and of course doesn't leave little bits of itself around like cardboard versions do. When it arrived it was tightly folded, and it took a little while to flatten out; rolling might have been a better packaging choice. But now that my fattest cat has laid on it constantly for nearly an entire day, that seems to have been resolved.
I have not put out yet as I have put under heavy pressure to flatten from curl. I bought for Christmas so no problem there. I wish it was wider but will review more after Christmas
I've wasted a lot of money buying toys and other items to keep my cats from scratching the carpets and furniture. One cat will use a scratching pole, but the other cat, who does the most damage, prefers horizontal surfaces. I bought a mat and then ended up buying 2 more! Both cats love this mat. One prefers to lie on it, and the other plays with it. I finally found something that my cats like!! Highly recommend!
Upon opening the package and laying the mat on the floor, my cats took to the mat immediately! I will be purchasing more. My thought for the few more that I want is to use fabric screws and apply the mats to the back and corners of the couch where the cats like to scratch.
I put this underneath the front of my cat's tree. It helped flatten the mat and keep it down in one spot no matter how crazy she's being. My cat likes to scratch it, sit on it, sleep on it, and play with it. Also, it looks like an outdoor-entrance mat to her house -- which is super cute.
I would definitely recommend this over cardboard scratchers! This one is super clean and doesn't get loose paper (or straw/threads) everywhere. And it's flat, so it doesn't get in the way and you can easily vacuum over it if you mind the toy. My cat used to bite his old scratchers as well (sometimes ate the paper...) but with this one, he bites and plays with the toy instead. He likes this mat a lot and uses it every day, often lays on it as well. He doesn't really use the jute side panels though, just the sisal middle panel. The main drawback is that this mat doesn't come with anything to hold it down. The back material is mildly anti-slip but definitely not strong enough. I used double-sided carpet tape to stick it to the floor, I recommend something similar.
