I figured it would work just fine as a upstairs water dish while my new cat was getting acquainted with the house. It got used pretty quickly. Then after I changed the water and refilled it both cats were very interested in the bubbles as the lower dish fills up. So not only do they use it, they like it. Full disclosure it was on sale, I may have purchased a different version if it was not. It's heavy enough that they can't tip it over and holds a good amount of water. Not entirely sure that the filter is necessary but I guess it depends what kind of water you have at your house they putting into it It doesn't filter spit and hair like a fountain would where the water is circulating.

I like the concept of this item but I feel the material fails. I've only used this for a couple weeks now but only worked perfect the first day. Ever since it seems like the black plastic on twist-on part that holds the filter is too flimsy so the weight of the water pushes it down and touches the bottom of the tray.. so very little water comes out. I went away for a few days and came back to see part of the tray's bottom was dry (but still plenty of water inside the container). Currently I lift the top to have water flow out through the filter to refill the tray. I would return if it was easier. Probably just going to end up the recycling once I get a different one.

I absolutely hate this water bowl. It’s got a lip that you have to lineup with the hole and then you twist it in but no matter what it's so heavy to flip it and put it on the floor. They literally should have put handles on the jug to make it easier. I always get a stupid amount of water on the floor from flipping it over.
Completely Redesigned, Not As Described

I have 3 of these that match the description, color, and measurements shown. I needed one replacement. What arrived has a long, shallow base and is blue and silver instead of the gray color ordered. I double checked that I ordered the exact waterer as before, the 4 gallon Petmate Microban. The footprint of this is too large for me to use anywhere in the house.
Great self-filling water bowl
This controls the level of water flow to only about 1.5” in the bowl at a time, there’s at least an inch at the top with no water. So it significantly reduces spills!
This controls the level of water flow to only about 1.5” in the bowl at a time, there’s at least an inch at the top with no water. So it significantly reduces spills! It gradually and quietly fills up as water is consumed by the dogs. So much better than the old ones that dump loudly and the water stays up high in the bowl. We’re thrilled with this!

I wanted to like this but it just has so many flaws. I have big dogs that drink a lot and the amount of water that it releases into the bowl was barely 1/4”. Just one of my dogs would lap that up in one lick. They are always standing and watching it come out slowly. I even tried removing the filter but didn’t help.
Pros: Convient size, fresher water, easier to clean

We have two indoor dogs, and a indoor outdoor cat, we were to the point we were constantly refilling water bowls, this is great because it lasts about two days for our three pets, instead of needing to fill a huge dog bowl three or four times a day. Also the water stays really clean, I was worried the bowl would get gross after a day with our messy babies, but I've only had to dump the water bowl once for debris, and we wash it every two or three days when it needs refilled. I'm so glad it has a filter too, saves time on waiting on not having to wait on the kitchen sink filter.

he ease of having water available. BUT, no extra filters or instructions about how frequently the filter needs to be changed. Miss Molly is drinking more water, which is good. I don't have to keep such a close eye on if her bowl is empty, also good. I can just clean out the bowl once a day and set it back up.
