This pet fountain is a plug in. The cord is about 5' 2" from the base of the fountain to the end you plug in. It comes apart, so you don't get the end wet when you're washing it.

I have a senior cat that is having more difficulty drinking. I was advised to get a cat drinking fountain. I bought this one due to the reviews. First of all, I could not get the fountain to work- which is why I am deducting a star. But, then I thought I would take out the fountain part and see if my cat would drink out of the big ceramic bowl- which she did. This bowl is easier for her to drink out of than her other water dishes which is why I kept it. I paid a lot of money for basically a big water bowl- but if it gets my cat to drink more then so be it.

Since the location is in my bedroom, I was hoping the sound would be low enough to be pleasant. In fact, I have to really strain hard to hear it at all! What I most love is the design - with clean, smooth contours that make it so easy to wipe clean. I have 2 cats - one prefers to drink out the top, where the water emerges gently from the spout. The other prefers the bowl - so both needs are met. The instructions for assembling were okay - there could have been a little bit more detail - but really not a big deal in the long run. Incidentally, my first order arrived with a crack in the bowl, and I was anticipating a huge headache, but the Live Chat help from Chewy was efficient and excellent, and I promptly received a replacement bowl - so no complaint here. I suspect the first one had been a return, as it was packaged differently (cardboard vs styrofoam) than the replacement. But that happens. For me, how Cust Svc responds is what's most important.

Good for the whole furry family

We had a smaller pet fountain that worked, but with 3 fur babies, we were constantly refilling it. The Petsafe fountain is larger, yet fits the space available

We had a smaller pet fountain that worked, but with 3 fur babies, we were constantly refilling it. The Petsafe fountain is larger, yet fits the space available. The dog and the cats are happy with the fountain's configuration of a deep basin as well as flowing water. It was fairly easy to assemble, and it runs silently.

Have used PetSafe fountains for awhile & very satisfied. My current male cat had urinary/bladder issues so needed to make sure he drank enough water. Fortunately he took to this fountain after being a bit suspicious of it at first. Have used for quite a few years now. Definitely worth the price.
