Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.
Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:

It is not required to have a written prescription on hand when you place your order, but Chewy Pharmacy must have a patient-specific prescription from a licensed veterinarian on file before it can dispense a medication. At checkout, simply select: I want Chewy to contact my vet, and we will contact your veterinarian on your behalf to get your pets prescription. If you prefer and have a written prescription when you place your order, you can mail it to: Chewy Pharmacy, 3621 Fern Valley Rd, Louisville, KY 40219. My Charlie has a heart condition and collapsing trachea. Sometimes, my vet doesn’t have this medication and I have to wait for them to restock. This means multiple visits. Now I can count on having it every month. My only criticism is that, I also get his food every month from Chewy as well, so I have to pay separate shipping. Can I combine to make both in one order?
I wish I had known how small these pills are, barely 1/8” diameter. I need to cut them in half and most of the time they just shatter into pieces. I’ll probably have to go to the brand name version which is a normal tablet size
the dog fill better with this tablet. 4mg dose for 13lb of dog with heart failure is the cheapest price on the market. There is not any problem to cut on two halves (doctor recommended 2mg twice a day)
I found this medication during Google search. My dog is 17 years old and he has taken Vetmedin for years without an issue. In the last 6 months or so I have had trouble getting him to take the Vetmedin in the morning and the pill large and difficult to hide in a treat or in pieces of meat. When I found the generic Pimobenden I told my veterinarian that I was going to order it and see if he would take it in the morning since it is smaller. It is small enough for me to hide it in a piece of meat and get him to take it. I am so glad that Chewy was able to start compounding the medication. Any help I can get to help get him to take his medication is appreciated.
I ordered heart pills for my dog, which are to be given 1/2 twice a day. The pills are so tiny that when I cut them with the pill cover, they crumble.
These pills are a fraction of the price of Vetmedin, so that’s the good thing about it. However, each pill is so small that it cannot be cut into halves. I figured I would just buy two pills in half the dose so I wouldn’t have to cut the pill. I thought the half dose pill would cost less since it’s half of the dose of the original dose I purchased, but it was actually more expensive. So just like that, I ended up having to pay double for my dog’s medication.
Love Chewy, fast customer service (you actually get to talk to a person real quickly!) & fast with their orders and shipments. Only negative thing about this medication is that if you're trying to get 1mg doses, this 4mg is a tiny round pill with no scores, I havent tried to cut yet, but I think it's going to be hard. I think they smaller doses.
Also way smaller. Wrap in treat and viola. No more struggle. Truely they’re let’s tan half the size of a pencil eraser.
Because it is a so small I have to put in a pocket for my dog but seems to be working. Will know how well the next time we go to vet. But all the people at Chewy were great working with me.
Was glad to find this! Only way to get this locally was in capsule form, which didn’t work out very well. The milligram for his dosage had to be compounded due to his size. This is wonderful to be able to have it in a teeny pill!
