1 Customer Questions

Will this fit in a regular suet feeder? What are the dimensions of the cake?

Answer by ChewyNov 08, 2024
This cake takes a larger suet or cake type holder (usually they hold 2 to 3 pounds) . It should be placed low so chickens can reach the cake. Or it can be placed on a platform feeder at ground level. The cake itself is 7.25" high x 2" wide and 6.25" deep.

I've been saving this for a rainy day, when the hens stay undercover and aren't able to roam about freely. I don't have a hanger for this, so peeled off the plastic wrapping from the top and kept the treat block inside the bottom plastic container. So far, one of our hens has been busy pecking away at it - yay! I feel badly when the weather doesn't permit their usual outside activities, and this treat block is a fun and tasty distraction.

My girls love these types of block/treats. I get them for special occasions. This one has mealworms, black soldier fly larvae, cranberries, almonds, etc that was perfect for thanksgiving. They literally gobbled it all up. This one is bigger than the normal one I buy at feed stores. It lasted a day if that but that was expected as they love love love these treats.

This cake fit perfectly in my large suet holder I use for the chickens. I was afraid it would be all crumbly and fall apart easily but it does not at all. It's hard and really pretty solid. I thought that the chickens would peck it all apart within a day but its has lasted a lot longer than I thought it would. I like it because it helps with boredom and gives them something to peck and play with when they are bored, especially this time of year. They seem to enjoy picking at it for their favorite pieces. I would definitely buy these.

My chickens were big fans of this treat block! It’s a pretty large block and had a variety of treats in it including mealworms which are my chickens favorite. I have 5 chickens and it’s going to teacher them while to get through the entire treat. Overall the chickens are happy so I am too!

This is a generous sized meal-worm cake for chickens or any poultry. We have about 20 hens and they made quick work of it. We find that adding these kinds of treats to their diet helps them to continue to produce high quality eggs with good shells and rich yolks.

Much larger than anticipated

This project is probably 4 times the size of a regular suet block. I was extremely happy with this product. I only have 3 chickens so I broke it up to feed them

This project is probably 4 times the size of a regular suet block. I was extremely happy with this product. I only have 3 chickens so I broke it up to feed them instead of them getting all at once. They seemed to really enjoy it though! I would buy this product especially as a winter time treat.

Not ideal

Chickens wouldn't touch it. It is also not a standard sized suet block so I couldn't find a feeder it would fit in to hang it. I ended up taking off the top wrapper

The ladies love it

My ladies (hens) loves it. They started going after it as soon as I put it out for them. It gives them something to do since they have to peck at it to get the seeds
