Dog loves, I love it, it's a winner. Even though our pup is no longer a puppy, she could hardly wait to play wit h this. She's a hard chewer and this ball is very solid. She also likes the nubs, they make it easier to hold on to the ball. I like the nubs for the same reason (and the ball even doubles as a foot massager). There's a faint smell, but not anything offensive, although I would not say it smells of beef. The red color makes it easy to find in the grass.

This is a really great idea: a scented thing to encourage chewing. By default it discourages chewing on things we don't want the little ones to chew on -- when we see them either actively chewing on ... say ... a table leg, or aiming for it, we can easily distract them by rolling this yummy smelling thing to them, or actively distract them by putting it in their mouth so there is no room for the table leg. Because of the scent it is much more likely to attract their attention. This toy is made for medium to large breeds. Our dog is way too small for this toy and is older. But she looks very cute next to it. The package says dishwasher safe and not toxic for children! Both of those are good to know. Especially the non-toxic for children, especially if you have small children crawling and rolling around with your puppy, as happens in our home on occasion. The package says "all natural scent" and "no chemicals". The package doesn't say what it is made of, or what the "natural scent" is, so I assume it is proprietary stuff that Playology developed. It appears highly scientific. I trust Chewy to not sell products that will be harmful to any animals.

My 1 year old pup isn’t teething anymore, but he LOVES chew toys, especially balls. The ball is made of a very sturdy rubber with little spikes, where I can see it would be very pleasing to a teething puppy. Although I personally can’t smell the beef scent, I think he can, because he often picks this ball out his toy basket filled with other balls he loves. This ball would be perfect for my Oliver if it were just a tad smaller. it is just a little large for toy breeds in my opinion. And boy, would he love a squeaker! This ball is so sturdy it will last us many years.

I am not sure if he prefers a hard chewing surface to the softer shell of the toy. Hard to say what influences dogs! It is clean chew toy, not making any mess. I like it! This ball would actually be great for a teething puppy or heavier breed dog. My 26 lb dog actually liked it and carried it around quite a bit. But he wanted me to throw it and I felt it too heavy to play catch with for his size. When I rolled it on the floor, he loved to chase it and would carry it back to me. There is no odor to it that I could smell. The nubs are small and rounded which I think makes it easier for dogs to pick up. I could see giving it 5 stars for a larger breed.
