This cage is not a bad size for a parakeet, at least for a starter. It makes a great transport cage from location to location. There is some assembly required and for security reasons I HIGHLY recommend using a few small zip ties in several places where it could come loose during transportation. It just snaps together in places and I wasn't at all comfortable moving it around until I added the zip ties. It is easy to assemble and as cages this size go, for the price, you're not going to beat it. I HATE the narrow feeders and the way they are kept on with the spring loaded panels. You will at least need to use some tape on the sides of the feeders to keep them from coming apart. I recommend using a different kind of feeder inside the cage although it takes up internal space and I don't like that. I don't keep my birds in this cage. I use them as starter cages when I sell parakeets to people who are not set up with a cage for their new bird. Once you assemble it, which doesn't take long, and reinforce it with zip ties, it makes a pretty nice cage. This is one of my favorites for the purpose it serves for me.
