Good Protein Ingredients

I have 11 chickens in my flock. Their layer chicken feed has 16% protein. This product contains 18%. For my chickids, as I like to call them, some extra protein

I have 11 chickens in my flock. Their layer chicken feed has 16% protein. This product contains 18%. For my chickids, as I like to call them, some extra protein is especially good in the cold winter and also during their molting. The ingredients are very good in this product. Even the safflower seed is an excellent source. All my chickids immediately went after it. They all ate the dried soldier fly larvae first and ate everything except for the sunflower seed. Sunflower seed is very nutritious, but with the hard seed shell, they were not interested in cracking them open. I'm sure is they were hulled, they would readily eat them. This is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I am going to consider soaking in some warm water first.

Nice snack mix

This is a nice snack mix for my flock. We usually use snacks to lure our chickens around where we want them to be, so it needs to be tasty to get everyones attention

This is a nice snack mix for my flock. We usually use snacks to lure our chickens around where we want them to be, so it needs to be tasty to get everyones attention. The star ingredient in this mix for my birds is the black soldierfly larva. Their favorite! There are also some nice protien nuggets mixed in that they seemed to gobble up like they are going out of style. I like that there is a variety of ingredients including peas and papaya! It was quickly eaten up when intorduced to the flock, so its safe to say they enjoyed it. As for me, I enjoy the size of the bag, it doesn't hurt my back to carry.

This is a fun looking mix and my girls are always excited about a treat. They love half of the ingredients, the soldier fly larvae, safflower and peas. The don't eat the wheat 'cookie', pumpkin seeds or papaya. I think the pumpkin seed and cookie are too big for them. My suggestion would be to make the wheat into a small pellet and chop the pumkin seeds a little. I don't really like sugar as an ingredient for my hens.

I feel like they are definitely getting something special with this, even though I feed them all of my vegetable peelongs regularly. This will definitely be a once-in-a-while treat just due to the price. But I'm happy to feed it to them again!

My chicks love this stuff! All kinds of goodies in this bag! As the directions say- I only give this treat once a day- just a small handful for my 5 hens. Just a nice treat with a variety of goodies.. fruit, peas, papaya, larvae, pumpkin seeds, etc. I like that I can see all the items in the bag- its not mashed up into pellets.

I was excited to get this bag of flock treats in and see how my chickies liked them. They were very excited when I tossed out handfuls. I did not they did not care

I was excited to get this bag of flock treats in and see how my chickies liked them. They were very excited when I tossed out handfuls. I did not they did not care for the little nuggets or the pumpkin seeds. Eventually, they were eaten but not first choice and not by the dominant flock members. Overall a good treat. My birds are just spoiled.

I wrote a review earlier that contained an error. It is the pumpkin seed (not sunflower) that my chickens will not eat. The shell is hard and my chickids showed no interest in trying to crack them open. The remaining ingredients are great for the protein content and they readily ate them.
