Old Goat

I used this product to support my very old (19) goat Okie, who has no back teeth, and is very arthritic. Since he cannot chew very well, I was looking for a product that could provide him extra nourishment and also that he could swallow with limited chewing. First, regarding the size and texture of the pellets, he had no problem eating them, even without soaking, and he liked the taste. See the photo of the light tan Goat Grower pellets next to some Timothy pellets for reference. I have to soak the Timothy for him to eat it. Second, I compared the Grower pellets to another Purina product that I was using, Purina Goat Chow Plus UP. (See photo of Guaranteed Analysis tags). The Goat Chow actually had more vitamins, fat, and higher copper and selenium, so for my old guy, that is a better choice. However the Goat Chow also lists cracked corn as the first ingredient, where the Goat Grower does not list cracked corn, so that makes it a better choice since my guy also has has recent problems with laminitis. Bottom line, I think this is a good product, and my old guy (and his two pasture-mates Laverne and Shirley) all love the taste.

Palatable and easy to feed.

It took a full of feedings for goats to accept the pellets because I've used sweet feed. However, as soon as I top dressed the pellets with a bit or sweet feed

It took a full of feedings for goats to accept the pellets because I've used sweet feed. However, as soon as I top dressed the pellets with a bit or sweet feed they were more than happy to gobble it down so from then on they were more than eager to eat them and apparently enjoy them. The pellets were easy to feed, palatable and had everything included in them that is needed for healthy goats. It seems I would need fewer pellets for them to receive the same nutritional value as the sweet feed therefore needing to purchase less poundage in feed.

This Purina grower has balanced protein, vitamins, and minerals to support growth, and the pelleted form helps reduce waste and sorting. Most of my goats took to it after a day or two and seem healthy and active. I appreciate the added yeast culture for digestion and the urinary acidifiers for health support. Their coats look nice and they’re gaining well. I’m giving it 4 stars because a few goats are still picky and needed a mix-in to eat it.
