How long will an opened bag of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Formula Dry Dog Food stay fresh? I used to buy 18 or 32 # size and freeze most of it but currently I don't have access to a freezer so I bought the 6# size but would prefer to buy 18#.
Answer by ChewyDec 05, 2017
Dry kibble is recommended to be stored in a cool, dry place. This product will last approximately 3 to 6 months once opened. To prolong the freshness, it's recommended to place in a air-tight food storage container.

Is the kibble size suitable for small breeds?
Answer by ChewyAug 11, 2018
This food is designed for all breed sizes and is approximately the size of a chickpea.

how many cups of food in the 6 pound bag of Purina EN
Answer by ChewyDec 02, 2017
There are approximately 4 cups of kibble per pound of food. A 6 pound bag will contain around 24 cups of food.

What is the MAXIMUM crude fat? CRUDE FAT 10.5% min
Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2021
This food has a fat content of 3.09 g per 100 calories, 11.76% as fed, 12.86% on a dry matter basis. This is based on the typical nutrient analysis. The recipes are formulated to target the minimum fat content that is provided in the Guaranteed Analysis, any deviation from this as-fed percentage would be minimal. Please speak with your veterinarian to ensure this value is low enough to be a suitable diet for your pet.

Very Senior Lab

We have a very senior lab. Before we switched to Purina EN, she would constantly have diarrhea. The vets conclusion was that she just can’t digest her food like she used to, so we switched to this stuff. Night and day difference. Poops are normal and she is definitely happier. She’s been on it now for almost a year with no problems. Highly recommend if you are in a similar situation. Only downside is the cost. The canned version is even better (and more expensive).

Thank god for this good!

I figured my dog would always have stomach issues forever I tried all types of expensive natural dog foods and homemade dog food. Nothing worked he would have diarrhea in the house because he couldn’t hold it. My vet recommended this food and it’s a miracle! He’s itching less too. Wished a vet recommended this food 4 yrs ago.

Good belly food!

Our golden retriever has benefited from this prescription food for 9-1/2 years! Our veterinarian chose this food over another similar one saying this one proved best for his patients. Definitely best for our boy!

Good food for Liver/Gallbladder/Pancreas disorders

This dry dog food was great for my Doberman that had gallbladder disease. He was nauseated most of the time, but would eat this food dry and drink water later to aid in the digestion process. This food gave him something to run on and was easy to digest as he was healing on his medications.

Dented cans

Although the products are satisfactory & the customer service exceptional the canned food rarely arrives without most cans severely dented.

Great service

Have had an account for years, but this was the first time I had to order special food. They made the job pleasant and the food was sent out promptly.

Would buy again

My dog likes the food, he is a bloat survivor and the vet recommended this food, shipping fast, process easy but requires vet Rx that can be easily downloaded upon purchase

Never Worked; Biome is Better

I’ve had two dogs over the years with IBD; our vet put my dogs on this food both times and it didn’t help, but when we saw a GI specialist for the issue, she recommended Biome and explained how it’s overall a superior prescription food to this one. We saw good results with Biome, but this stuff never made any difference. Just as well; I’ll never trust the Purina brand after all their recalls and quality issues.

Sweetie-tested and Approved

My 9 year old lab mix was diagnosed with possible pancreatitis and other issues that require her to be on a low fat diet. We switched to Purina Pro Plan N two 35 pound bags ago and while she doesn't love it (doesn't race to the bowl when she hears the first clinks of kibble in her metal bowl), she eats it all gone, as my son would say. It's kept her weight consistent and she doesn't seem to have any digestive issues, which is a huge relief.
