So far so good
By Moon on Jan 29, 2021
Moonie loves this formula but to be fair Moon is an English Lab so she doesn't turn her nose up to many food related items. I decided to try this food as an agent to helping her kidneys which have very slightly elevated numbers so her vet and I decided to be proactive. Won't know until July, her next check up, to know if it has helped with that. Will report back. P.S. The kibble is pretty big. Not sure if they make a small dog version.

Getting Better
By Memphis on Feb 16, 2021
I have been using the Purina brand for for over 20 years. I have never had to use a special diet food until the last few months. Once I found out there were more choices than what the vet recommended, I changed my dogs brand of food. I see a difference in his health, but more importantly, he is eating again.

Dogs eat it and it's helping their kidney blood work
By Centex on Jan 16, 2021
Both dogs have damaged kidneys so they have to have special food. Neither dog loves it , but both eat it. One dog has to have some moist food mixed in with it. However, both dogs are doing great with their energy and activity. They have added back on the weight and muscle definition they lost when they first got Lepto. Their creatine levels have improved with this diet.

By BigDog on Feb 10, 2021
Vet recommended for our older dog with kidney issues. He liked the taste and did well on it; however, due to terrible arthritis in his back, hips and legs he could no longer get up, stand or walk on his own. He passed away a couple days ago.

kidneys are improving!
By Sheen on Feb 15, 2021
My senior pup’s kidney numbers are in normal ranges. He was showing early kidney disease back in October and now (February) he is much improved. I use this and the science diet kidney care canned food. And the dog loves both.

So far so good
By Skibrit on Jan 26, 2021
It is too soon to know if this is helping with my pups kidney function, but so far he’s eating it without complaints. He is 14 and still has a good amount of energy so I’m hoping this dietary change will keep him happy and healthy for a good while longer.

Works for dogs with kidney issues
By star on Dec 9, 2020
Our old 15 year husky mix started peeing all the time and drinking so much water. A trip to vet confirmed her kidneys were failing and they recommended starting her on kidney food. Joy, right? Prescription diets are a fortune. I looked and found this one for the best price per pound. She eats it, not as joyously as her previous food. I will point out she loves to eat so the fact that she doesn't eat this as fast means she must not love the taste. So if you have a picky dog, this probably isnt for you. But it does help. She hasn't peed in house since and is back to drinking regular amount of water. This food is also larger in size. We add water to it to make it easier for her to chew with her Our old 15 year husky mix started peeing all the time and drinking so much water. Purina Renal diet
By Sheltiemom on Jan 27, 2021
To be honest, I hate giving this food to my dog because I don't think corn is a good diet for a dog, but if it means I will have my dog around longer, I will do it. I supplement it with a low protein, low phosphorus high quality protein so I feel better about feeding it to her.

Pleasantly Surprised. Again!!
By Mima830 on Jan 21, 2021
It has been so great to know that this is a food that will support Masons kidneys and it is one in which he absolutely loves!!! Normally Mason would not eat any prescription diet dry food without it being mixed with wet food but this brand he loves and will eat it however I prepare it!! Great product!!

Fantastic!
By BCMom on Dec 4, 2020
I bought the wet and dry food in purina pro plan nf for my senior border collie renal patient. I based the decision on reviews from other kidney patient parents here at Chewy. She was turning her nose up at homemade food, Hill’s and the other prepared foods she liked are too high in protein for kidneys. I needed to get the phosphate binder in her so tried the canned ppnf first to mix it in. She gobbled it down and wanted more!! So I tried the kibble and she loves it too. I now mix them. I’m beyond thrilled! Such a stressful time anyway especially when they won’t eat! But she’s doing great now! Needs no coaxing or appetite enhancers to get her eating!!
