Description

Help your little fur-iend grow up to be a healthy furball with the Rabbit Hole Hay Ultra Premium, Hand Packed Alfalfa Hay Small Pet Food. Rabbit Hole Hay’s Alfalfa Hay is lower in fiber to support your fur-iend’s digestive system, but high in protein and calcium to help him grow and gain healthy weight. This grub is suitable for rabbits who are younger than 7 months old, guinea pigs who are younger than 6 months old, and chinchillas who are younger than a year old. While adult rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas cannot enjoy unlimited Alfalfa Hay, they can still enjoy it once in a while as a treat!

Key Benefits

  • Features fiber to promote a healthy digestion.

  • Can be used as a treat for adult rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas, or mixed into their standard food.

Feeding Instructions

Growing Animals (under 6 months): Unlimited amounts, plus free choice grass hay. Mature Animals: Occasional small amounts. Nursing Females: Unlimited amounts in addition to free choice grass hay.

Alfalfa Hay should only be offered carefully to mature rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and prairie dogs due to the higher protein and calcium content. Many vets believe that animals prone to kidney stones, bladder stones or calcium crystals in their urine should always avoid alfalfa.

Alfalfa Hay can be used to help animals gain weight and will give a nice shine to their fur. Elderly animals should be fed foods they enjoy, such as alfalfa, when considering quality of life. Alfalfa Hay can be used in small amounts as an appetite stimulant for thin or convalescing animals. Rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas under 6 months of age can be given Alfalfa Hay daily. After 6 months of age an animal should begin a gradual transition to 100% grass hay such as Oat Hay, Western Timothy, Orchard Grass or Bunny Brome.

How much do I feed daily? Alfalfa Hay can be fed daily to growing animals as 25% of their total dietary intake. Adult animals should be limited to a small pinch as a treat.

Transition Instructions

After 6 months of age an animal should begin a gradual transition to 100% grass hay such as Oat Hay, Western Timothy, Orchard Grass or Bunny Brome.

    Maybe not for picky eaters?

By Domino on Apr 22, 2020

I bought this hay for my Rex Domino but he wouldn't touch it. It smelled fresh & sweet so not really sure why he didn't like it. I gave it to my daughter who happened to have a nursing foster rabbit & her's seemed to LOVE it! My daughter even asked me how she could go about getting more! She did say she had to feed it in the ceramic bowl so her bun could eat all of it since there were a LOT of little pieces but I know it didn't last long!

    Alfalfa so fresh and sweet

By TitaniumTheChinchilla on Mar 14, 2020

Bought loose alfalfa for the first time from Rabbit Hole Hay. So incredibly different than the standard compressed blocks. Smells fresh and sweet, not like old dust. Our chinchillas go nuts over it, and are less "picky" with it than with the timothy hay that they get more of.

    Our Bun-Bun's absolute favorite!

By CritterWatcher on Dec 27, 2019

My rabbit eats this stuff like it's candy! I've tried every possible hay/grass option for him, and he will not eat any of it anymore since he discovered alfafa. He gets plenty of fresh greens, too, but he absolutely loves this stuff. Very fresh with lots of long pieces, which he loves. Great product.

    Bunnyloves

By Bunny on Jan 4, 2020

My lion head bunny loves this hay. We have tried others he is not a fan. It's a tad messier cause of the smaller pieces but while he is a baby and he needs his nutrients I dint mind the extra mess
