I've used Red Dingo tags for years and never had a problem with engraving, tho it's not deep, scratching off or difficult to read OR the design coming off. I use Tag-It (someone on etsy calls them "Tag-n-Go") which is not all metal so as to scratch. Small, thin ring on them. I also use the Red Dingo tags for my keys, as do friends, and with that beating, they still hold up. Love me some Red Dingo pet ID tags
