We used to use a heat lamp but we were concerned about the potential fire hazard they have. We settled on this heat plate and it’s way better. It resembles a hen and the chicks flock to it in the evening. Just monitor your chicks chirp. If they aren’t chirping then they are comfortable. If you hear them chirp then adjust the height and monitor. Very happy with this product and will use again with more chicks down the line.

Too Hot

I got this because of the cone feature. It was good for about a week, then got very hot to the touch. I found burns on some of the chicks. Heating plates should

I got this because of the cone feature. It was good for about a week, then got very hot to the touch. I found burns on some of the chicks. Heating plates should not be so hot that you can’t touch them. I’ve had success with others in the past, but was hoping this would have been a good option that would reduce cleanup. Hoping their feathers grow back okay. I had to get a replacement brand.
