The size
I had surgery the day after I got the baby chickens so it was ideal. I could keep it in my house and take care of babies while I was recuperating. It worked out

Good concept
These are a good alternative to flakes if you want to keep the water clean, but they start smelling the first day and the chicks shred them up scratching in it,

The chicks scratch holes in it and the food goes up underneath and it just ends up being messy.

But, no way to control the odor from the poop because it just goes on top of the jute and sits there. Stinky. The trade off is... pine shavings come with dust,

Better than shavings
Very easy to clean but after a couple days the chicks scratch and peck at the corners. It is too easy for them to eat the fibers.
