In the spring, I watched 6 Chipmunks eating my chicken feed in the run. No wonder I was having to buy another #50 lb bag of feed so often. (I only have 7 hens and 1 rooster left). The chickens learned very quickly how to operate the trendle and get their feed, however the rooster (being a very TALL rooster) had difficulty...he would step on the trendle but would have to step back in order to get his head in and eat and then the top would close. So I added a 4 inch slat of wood to extend the trendle..now he eats without any difficulty and doesn't have to wait for a hen to come up and step on the trendle to open it.

Great feeder; does well at feeding our flock without feeding rodents when everyone is in the coop at night. The cost of the feeder is offset by not feeding the mice. It’s sturdy and keeps the rain out. The treadle is great for most of the flock, but I’m finding that my Shetland Hens aren’t quite heavy enough for it. I throw some feed on the ground for them to eat, without leaving extra, which seems to be working well. Received the feeder with broken rivets on the treadle; Chewy was willing to send a replacement feeder. In an effort to save shipping such a big/heavy package (and they were willing to cover that, too, I called Rent-a-Coop and they were willing to send replacement parts (which came very quickly). We received great service from both Chewy & Rent-a-Coop!
