Would you recommend this for a 9 1/2 yr old cat just to give him extra health support to his daily diet? He does not have health issues I just want to keep my baby healthy and live a long my happy life

Answer by SimoneFeb 14, 2025
Consult with a vet before using this. This is for use only when you have confirmed that your pet has high phosphorus levels.

Sometimes I put this in my dog’s food but then she decides that she doesn’t want to eat. I refrigerate it to give it to her later. She doesn’t like cold food so I need to heat it. Is it safe to put in the microwave-would the microwave decrease it’s effectiveness and would it harm the microwave?

Answer by ChewyJan 10, 2021
It is not safe to reheat the PhosBind material. Exposing the material (aluminum hydroxide) to the heat of a microwave will cause it to decompose. If your dog does not eat a complete meal, it is best to give the PhosBind dose just before a meal by mixing it in tepid water or a small amount of food. It's heavily not recommended to reheat the food with the PhosBind material in the food.

What do you do if your animal eats 3 times a day. Do you you divide the daily dosage into 3 but then isn't the effect lost?

Answer by ChewyMay 24, 2021
The daily dosage of this supplement should be divided into separate meal time. It mixes in very well with dry food. We recommend the shake & bake approach. You take the day’s ration of food that you’re going to be administering, put it into a baggie along with the day’s dosage of the Phos-Bind and shake it until the food is evenly coated. The oily digest that coats the kibble will have the Phos-Bind adhered to it. It has no taste and will help with administration.

What are the ingredients?

Answer by ChewyApr 17, 2019
The only ingredient in this supplement is Aluminum Hydroxide (USP) 500mg.

How very little you need to use.

I was amazed Louis could not smell or taste this on / in his food & he’s very particular. He knows when something is on or in his food and he will not touch it

Vet recommended

Dosage very difficult to determine. Only tried cause vet recommended, but harder than epakitin to get the dosage correct. Very confusing - Will probably go back

She can't take it because she vomits when she does. She's an elderly cat and this is the second medicine we've tried her on.

Please be careful administering this stuff to your dog! Or just dont, if your dog has ANY gastrointestinal issues or a sensitive stomach. My 17 year old poodle-mix experienced literally every negative side effect of this supplement and passed away within 5 days of taking it (and I was sure to give him a very small amount, not even the recommended dosage for his size)! This stuff can be toxic if your dog has a sensitive stomach or gastrointestinal issues. My poor pup became very lethargic, stopped eating, was extremely dizzy, nauseous, began vomiting, stopped drinking water, and had black/bloody stool within days of taking Phos bind, he ultimately died. This product should come with a warning label. Kidney disease is bad, but in my opinion, this stuff is WORSE. Do your research on aluminum hydroxide, it may save your dogs life.

How quickly my order came

The vitamin powder is tasteless which is a good thing. I can sneak it into food or ice cream.

My 17 year old man has stage 4 kidney disease and this binder was suggested. It has worked beautifully and his numbers have become normal again! It's very easy to mix into his kidney care wet food and I do two scoops per can and he eats it up with no issues and he's rather picky cat so very happy this powder is so easy to add to his wet food.

This was recommended by my vet for my cat with kidney disease. She determined the dosage. This did work for a long time for him, but he's a big boy so he needed a larger dose. After many months, this product gave him aluminum toxicity. I learned after the fact this is a cheaper alternative to other phosphorus binders, and I'd recommend staying away. Try Naraquin, or Catney One. and only give your cat a phosphorus binder if bloodwork shows they need it, and use as directed by a vet only.
