I understand that longevity depends on usage, but about how many times can you use it? (Like 20 or 100? Ballpark please!) And, how do you know that it is empty, so that you don't expect to use it, only to find out it is empty?

The number of uses per Dog Horn XL varies dependent on how long the actuator button is held per blast. However, the house testing resulted in getting 140 +/- short blasts per unit. The canister will get lighter as the propellent is used up giving an indication of the balance of uses left.

Is this like an air horn? Is it that loud?

The Dog Horn XL produces approximately 110 to 120 decibels and is very loud. Operators should carefully read the instructions on how to use and take note of the cautions. Use only as directed and always point the top away from ears when in use.

Gets her attention

Molly is a very active, hardheaded Spaniel. She stops in her tracks when she hears the horn and sits in place while we drive away. She bad to chase our vehicles when we leave the yard and chase the neighbor's cows and horse. It is an attention getter. The only problem, our humble black lab feels that he is being punished. He catches on really fast, so he watches my hand to see if I have that loud thing with me.

We bought this horn a few weeks ago because our neighborhood is full of stupid pet owners who don’t leash their dogs properly. We have a reactive dog and one of my worst fears is something happening to him or someone else because another dog approaches us unleashed. Well today we finally used it. A little white dog probably 1/3 of the size of my dog broke off its leash and ran towards us ready to bite my dog. I immediately pulled out the horn and blew it twice. The dog stopped, turned around, and WALKED BACK TO ITS HOUSE. Get this now!! Never leaving for a walk again without this.
