Instructions
The Schirmer Tear Test is comprised of a paper strip that is folded and hooked over the lower eyelid. Once in place, the tears begin to "wick" up the filter paper. The distance, in millimeters, that the tears wick up the test strip in one minute, represents th millimeters of tear production. Although Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is bilateral, each eye may be at a different stage in the disease process at the time of examination. Therefore, if one eye tests abnormal, the other eye should also be treated or monitored closely.

I bought these tear test strips in 2023 for $13. I have bulldogs that are known to get dry eye so like to keep them handy. This time I searched for it on website and thought it must be bulk box for veterinarians or something, but no - the price is over a $100 for same 10 strips?! It’s cheaper to take my dog to the vet and do the full exam plus the dry eye test.

This test at the vets office is typically $20-40, this is insanity to charge 5 times higher the amount at the vet’s office and all it is, it’s a piece of paper with numbers written on it to measure the amount of tear within the certain time frame. To do this at home, without the help of vet tech assistance you would think it would cost way less. I was very close to ordering this test for my dog because I thought like everything else it would cost way more at the vet’s office, but after doing some research I realized it would be way cheaper at the vet’s office so I asked my vet if she could do it while I was there for a different reason, they had the kit, they did it and it only cost me $20. This is great for those that can’t bring their dog to vet’s office due to anxiety or distance, but it shouldn’t be bought thinking you are saving money because you really aren’t !
I’m a vet assistant
This is the same brand of STT we used at a general practice I work at and at a shelter I previously worked at. Easy to use and read. Recommend buying a couple packs

Works great in testing eye dryness
