What is the typical shelf life of this medication? I would like to keep it handy but wondering how long an unopened box would be good for before it degrades or expires.

Answer by CamilaAug 04, 2021
in theory, it has an 18-month shelf life from manufacturing in the UK. The one I bought was less than 4 months away from the expiration date :o( We could not use it. If you need it right away, it may be worth buying it.

Hi my guinea pigs is not eating. Is this help ? How much I need to give it to him a day?

Answer by ChewyJun 13, 2021
This formula can be given to guinea pigs and is specially designed to provide small pets with intensive nutritional support for critical care. It will help stimulate your pet’s appetite and should have them on the road to recovery in a few days. You will need to know how much your rabbit weighs and feed one sachet of RecoveryPlus, per kilo of body weight per day, mixed with 90ml of warm water. Feed small amounts to your pet through a Recovery syringe at regular intervals throughout the day. Vitamin C is included in RecoveryPlus, so there is no need to supplement guinea pigs and degus.

Does this come already in liquid form, or is it a powder that you mix with water?

Answer by ChewySep 30, 2020
This food comes in powder form and is required to mix with water to feed.

Does it come with a syringe?

Answer by ChewyNov 11, 2020
Science Selective Recovery Plus Liquid Syringe Small Pet Food comes with one syringe.

Fantastic product for my healing guinea pig

Prior to trying Recovery Plus, we tried EmerAid and Critical Care. While my guinea pig ate it, it was a battle. She LOVES Recovery Plus. No more syringe battles

So I purchased this item back in December just to have in hand in case I ever needed it four any of my four rabbits. I used it for the first time yesterday because my one rabbit was having a GI flare up. He’s currently being worked up for megacolon and I was instructed to feed him critical care to help during these episodes. His flare up started earlier in the week and is characterized by large, wet, cowpile poops that are misshapen and have mucus in them. I gave the CC earlier this week and noticed no difference. Yesterday when I woke up it seemed even worse, and desperate to help him rebalance his gut I took out the Science Selective Recovery feed that I had purchased back in December. I was absolutely amazed by the difference it made in only a few hours! He went from having large mucus coating wet poops to WAY more consistent, golden and drier poops, and the mucus completely went away! I am blown away by the results and cannot recommend this product enough for any bun with GI issues!

Like I said in the headline, this really helped my rabbit. He was in gi-stasis. While I waited for this to arrive, I had to get creative to find ways to get him to eat, but it wasn't as productive in taking care of the issue. But after using this, it did the trick. He absolutely hated the syringe, so I made the next one thicker, added some ripped up cilantro and he ate it on his own. By the next morning he was eating his regular pellets and hay. I feel lucky that this worked so quickly for him, and comforted by the fact that if he stops eating and drinking again then I'm ready for it. I wish I would have already ordered this to keep on hand, but now I know.

My bun has on and off GI problems so I like to have this type of recovery food at hand. I use Sherwood recovery but I had read so many good things about Science Selective that I wanted to give it a try. It does not have soy as Sherwood (Critical Care has soy, which is not good for bunnies). Also, Science Selective Recovery Plus is made in the UK and I have been well impressed with bunny products from the UK. However, the issue was the expiration date. It seems the shelf life is 18 months from production in the UK. Therefore, when I bought it in the US, it was less than 4 months away from expiration. Chewy refund me the money and I donated it to a shelter, which may need it right away.

Absolute life saver. Seems our 13-year-old chinchilla would rather starve herself to death than eat Oxbow's Critical Care, regardless of flavor. She had some issues about five years ago that necessitated liquid feeding and, although not a huge fan of the Oxbow, she was okay with it. Can't be sure, but we do think Oxbow changed the formula in between then and now (increased Vitamin C/Ascorbic Acid, I suspect, which our chin has never liked). Whatever the reason, she was firmly putting her foot down on the Oxbow and she was rapidly losing weight. As a result of the underlying issue, exacerbated by this stubborn rejection, our sweet little lady lost almost half of her body weight over just a few weeks. We were afraid she had given up, to be honest, and weren't sure if she was going to round the corner. Chose Science Selective over the other option I found based on the higher caloric impact. Oh the relief! Once she got a taste, she gobbled it down right away. We still had days we needed to coax her, and shift-feeding a nocturnal being is exhausting, but she was back in the fight. Took a little bit to find the ideal ratio--she seemed to prefer a 1:4 mixture, by weight--and we found the mix tended to go bad sooner than the use-within window (that said, we clearly have a very particular chinchilla...). Also seemed important to shake the sachet before dispensing. The longer fibers--if there are too many--will not go through the syringe and will cause a dense backup. We ended up using a 30cc catheter tip syringe most often, rather than the one that comes in the box, although the one in the box was amazing, initially--she really took to the angle and texture, which also helped. They should put two in the box of ten sachets because it started to go bad around sachet four and was pretty rough by sachet seven. Ultimately, though, the larger catheter tips were better because of the clogging issue I mentioned. It took us over a month, and we kept up the liquid feeding in the mornings before work for another month, but she regained all of her weight back and has been going strong since, almost six months later. Complete endorsement of this life saver.

Great product. It came in one day after giving the order. It saved our guinea pig`s life because she wouldn`t eat anything. It might not be good for longer use, though. Alfalfa hay is not good for guinea pigs for prolonged use.
