Seachem Purigen Ultimate Filtration for Marine & Freshwater Aquariums

I purchased this product because I was informed that it would help clear up my fresh water aquarium that had discolored from the Mopani wood decoration (common problem leaching tannin from the wood even after seasoning the wood for weeks). I initially purchased two bags. It somewhat worked but not as well as I was hoping. The other downside, there was a small hole in one of the stiff bag and some of the filtration material came out but luckily not too much went into the tank since I saw it when I was inserting the filter bag into the filtration area (I did followed the direction and rinsed the filter first but did not notice the small hole initially). The medium material is extremely small and it was difficult to remove the small amount that leaked into the tank. If I didn't immediately notice the material coming out, I would have had to take down the entire tank to clean out the medium. I threw out the first bag and checked the second bag. The second bag did not have any holes or leaking medium so I used it and it worked marginally. I was desperate to clear the tank color since other customers raved that it would remove the tannin but it did not make that much of a difference even though my tannin problem is very minor (it takes a long time before the water becomes tinted). This product probably works as described for other issues but did not work removing the discoloration from wood tannin.
