First off, I was extremely excited to try this freeze dried pork from Shepherd Farms. We have an 11 year old German Shepherd and he’s notoriously picky with his food. He’s always had another “name brand” dog food but over the last few months, he seems to be getting picky with his “taste” so when we had the opportunity he o try this product, we were excited to see how he would like it. As you can see in the photos, he was EXTREMELY interested once I opened the box, following me around everywhere and even growing at my for if she got close to the bag. (lol) Since this was a smaller pack, we decided to use the SHEPHERD FARMS freeze dried pork as a mix-in with his regular food. We dished out about 1 cup worth and mixed it in with his regular 4 cups or food that we give him. He could barely wait for me to put the bowl down, he was trying to get to the bowl! Once I put the bowl down, he ate the entire bowl in about 5 mins! He had literally drool coming out of the corners of his mouth!! lol Since that time, we’ve been using it as a little treat here and there and we allow our 3 year old daughter to give him individual pieces as a special treat or snack. Now, the “other part”. We looked this up on the chewy website and it’s EXTREMELY expensive. I’m not so sure that this is a good that you’d be able to purchase on a regular basis UNLESS money is no issue for you OR, you hate a smaller 10lb or less dog that maybe only eats 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup per day. Our Shepherd eats 4-6 cups per day so this wouldn’t be a viable option for us (financially) to make the actual switch for his regular food. BUT - as discussed with my wife, we WOULD absolutely buy this as a treat or special snack for him. Currently, we give him milk bones but we all know those aren’t the best with the best ingredients. So, although we wouldn’t be able to make the switch for his regular food due to the cost, we would absolutely buy this to have on hand for a snack or special treat for him.

This product can be used as both a feed and a supplement. We chose to use it as a supplement for our dogs. Overall the packaging was nice and the feeding instructions

This product can be used as both a feed and a supplement. We chose to use it as a supplement for our dogs. Overall the packaging was nice and the feeding instructions for if you wanted to use as food were very clear. I have this a 4 star due to the fact that it is mentioned that it can be used as a topper but no instructions are given on ratios of being able to use this as a supplement. The smell is a little off putting but that I think is just a normal dog food problem, I think most dog food smells bad.

I don’t have a problem buying expensive food for my dog, but this would cost me around $300 a month to feed him and that’s a little much for me

Since I have have three dogs who eat at the same time, I figured it would cause a riot if I only gave one or two of them a meal of this, which is all the sample would have provided, so I gave Shepherd Boy Farms Pork Recipe Freeze-Dried Dog Food to my girls as a treat. They were a little hesitant at first, sniffed it like they were not certain it was edible, but they hadn't had pork before. After a minute, Bitsy, my little Min-Pin puppy, decided it was edible and dived in, which, of course, meant the others were close behind her. Now they know the sound of the bag and are waiting with bright eyes and bushy (figuratively) tails.

One of my dogs is allergic to chicken which is common in majority of dog food and treats. This Pork recipe Shepherd Boy Farm Freeze Dried dog food is great with no chicken in the ingredients. Moka and Latte love it. When they hear the bag sound, they run over begging for it. It’s pricy if use as dog food, but I use as treats which I found to be economical. The whole bag would last for a long time. I bet it’s good as topper as well.
