About Sherpa Pet Carriers

Original Deluxe Pet Carrier

The Original Deluxe Pet Carrier is an airline-approved carrier that lets your pet travel comfortably whether you are on the go, in your car, or taking a walk. It is easy to use and durable enough to keep your pet contained and protected.

Guaranteed on Board

Sherpa worked with major airlines to make a carrier that is GuaranteedOnBoard. Sherpa’s G.O.B. program provides you with all the information you will need for future travels with your pet and added assurance that your carrier will be allowed to fly.

Fits Under Most Airline Seats

The spring-wire frame allows the rear side of the carrier to be pushed down several inches so that it can fit under most airline seats in compliance with airline requirements and FAA regulations. This makes the carrier in-cabin-friendly and airline-approved for most airlines.

About Sherpa

In 1989, Sherpa introduced their first soft-sided carriers so pets could fly in-cabin. Today, they continue to innovate to make traveling secure and comfortable for every pet – every day and on every trip. Whether you’re going around the block, across town or on a flight around the world, Sherpa products will help you travel with peace of mind.

I bought 3 as we travel over 200 miles each way every month. We have 2 cats and 2 kittens. The kittens share a carrier, for now. The carriers fastened in with ease. There is plenty of room for them. We leave the carriers out when not traveling, so they can nap in them. It's good to feed the cats treats in the carriers as well. This way they won't relate them solely to a dreaded car ride.

I purchased this to move my cat to our new home 900 miles away. The carrier was plenty large enough for her to be comfortable and very sturdy. A big plus is that it latches into the childseat safety system in the backseat and has a strap that tethers to the cargo area in an SUV. Safety was a big deciding factor for me but one downside is that I had a difficult time unlatching it upon arrival. It is also heavy - especially with a cat in it - but that is just further evidence of its sturdiness. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

We purchased this for our older large DSH cat. He has difficulty now curling up for an extended period of time, and our veterinarian is a 1+ hour drive. The tie down system is great, and we learned a few things about our SUV in the process (didn’t even know the fasteners existed). As much as I miss having him in the passenger seat, because he’s very chatty, the back seat is much safer for him, especially given the route we take. Plus, the main reason we purchased the carrier, he can now stretch out during the road trips.

This carrier checked ALL my boxes!

Without hesitation, I would recommend the purchase of this carrier. I have a long, tall, 15 pound fur baby kitty who was rescued. I feel like she is traumatized

Without hesitation, I would recommend the purchase of this carrier. I have a long, tall, 15 pound fur baby kitty who was rescued. I feel like she is traumatized every time I take her to the vet, and tells me she doesn’t like her former carrier while we are riding to and from the vet. She is a talker and hisses when they try to get her out of her former carrier. Upon receipt of this carrier, I assembled it and put it on the floor. I picked her up and gently showed her the doorway and she walked right in and sat down. I was shocked. I have kept this carrier open in the house, and now both of my girls take turns napping and playing inside. I did this so they could become familiar with the new carrier. I am extremely satisfied with the safety features of this carrier and have practiced installing it in my car. Knowing that I can travel safely with my precious cargo is priceless. I read all the reviews including the negative reviews. I do my own research. Read the directions. This is a sturdy carrier and I purchased the XL. Thank you.

Amazing For Larger Cats : Difficult to Clean

I have two large breed cats (one is 16lbs the other is 21lbs) and this carrier fits them very well. I got it because of the height so my one cat can sit up fully

I have two large breed cats (one is 16lbs the other is 21lbs) and this carrier fits them very well. I got it because of the height so my one cat can sit up fully without hitting her head. It is great when it comes to fitting larger cats. I appreciate the handle being thicker and fabric covered because if you know the pain of carrying a hefty cat with a plastic or metal handle you'll definitely appreciate this carrier. I like how it has multiple spots to strap my cat into the car and it even has an anchor strap which is amazing for cats that like to take nosedives off the seat when they start moving around. The mesh is good quality and so is the zippers and straps. A big major con for me with cats who can get car sick or use the bathroom in the carrier is how difficult it is to clean. Because you can't take it apart and it is entirely fabric, it is difficult to wipe down and get every nook and cranny cleaned. I ended up hosing it off outside and then leaving it in the sun for a day or two to dry but that's difficult in winter months. The supports also seem a bit flimsy in comparison to some other fabric carriers so I worry about them sometimes. Overall I love the size and comfort of them, but I did end up getting a plastic carrier for my more car sick prone cat because clean up can be a nightmare.
