How to Find the Best Fit: Select the carrier size based on your pet’s measurements first and then by your pet’s weight, making sure not to exceed the maximum weight limits. Also allow enough space for your pet to change positions while inside the carrier. Note: the carrier is designed for pets lying down, so your pet may not be able to stand.
How to Measure Your Pet: For pet’s length, start at the nape of the neck (where the collar falls) and measure to the base of the tail. For height, measure from the floor to the top of the shoulder.
How Do I Know What Size Carrier Is Best For My Pet?
Please weigh and measure your pet carefully. The pet's length should be measured from the nape of the neck to the base of the tail. The pet's height should be measured when it is standing, from the floor to the shoulder. Please note, pets should have enough room to lie down comfortably but also stand up and turn around should they wish to change positions.
How Do I Fold My Carrier When Not In Use?
- Remove the faux lambskin liner from the stability board
- Detach the stability board from the carrier by pulling up the Velcro tabs on either end
- Secure the faux lambskin liner back onto the stability board and move to the top of the carrier so the liner and board are beneath the U-shaped opening
- Fold either end of the carrier down and underneath the liner and board
- Store in a clean, dry place for future use
Does My Sherpa Carrier Push Down?
All Sherpa carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag. The spring wire frame allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.
What Does Airline Approved Mean?
Airline Approved means that a carrier:
- Provides adequate ventilation
- Is leak-proof
- Safely encloses the pet
What Does Guaranteed On Board Mean?
Guaranteed On Board is the only program that guarantees a Sherpa carrier meets an airline's specific rules and regulations and will be allowed on board. All small and medium Sherpa carriers are included in the GOB program. However, the medium size carrier is not Guaranteed On Board on ALL of the airlines included in the program.
Why Is My Airline Not Listed On The Guaranteed On Board Site?
Just because a particular airline is not included in the Guaranteed On Board program it does not mean your carrier will not be allowed on board, just that you will need to confirm directly with the airline. Please note, our carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame that allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.
My Carrier Is Larger Than What The Airline Specifies As Being Permitted In-Cabin. Will It Be Allowed On Board?
Please check with airline directly. Some airlines allow carriers that are larger than the dimensions they specify if the carrier is soft-sided and pushes down. All Sherpa carriers are made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag which allows the end to be pushed down several inches to conform to the under seat dimensions without restricting the pet's head room or compromising the structural integrity of the bag.
I Cannot Find My Style / Size Carrier On The Drop-Down Menu On The Gob Form. Is It Allowed On Board My Airline?
No. If the style / size carrier you have is not included in a particular airline's GOB page it is not Guaranteed On Board that particular airline because its dimensions exceed what the airline specifies as being allowed on board.

Guaranteed On-Board Program
You can fly with confidence knowing that there's an actual guarantee for your pet's carrier to be allowed on board when flying with your pet. This program was designed to meet most major airlines' specific rules and regulations, so you don't have to worry about your carrier being refused while getting on the plane. All small and medium SHERPA carriers are a part of this program. Simply go to the Guaranteed On-Board website, find your airline, print the Guaranteed On-Board form, make sure you have your pet's health certificates, and get ready for takeoff!
Comfortable and Airline Approved
These comfortable carriers have received the stamp of approval and fulfill all the essential requirements of most major airlines. SHERPA carriers provide plenty of ventilation by allowing fresh air to flow through the mesh panels, so the space is comfy for your pet. The carriers feature leakproof bottoms in case of accidents and zippers that safely enclose your pet. SHERPA carriers can also adjust slightly to meet the under-seat dimensions that airlines require.

Conveniently Designed With Minimal Maintenance
With SHERPA carriers, you can travel in style, and most importantly, provide a safe place for your pet during your travels. Most are made with a spring wire frame that makes them able to fit under airline seats while keeping their form. SHERPA takes safety to a whole new level with locking zippers that can't be opened from the inside in many of the carriers to keep your pet secure while traveling from one destination to another. Seat belt straps are included in most models, and because they can also be used as luggage straps, you can have one carrier for all occasions. For low-key maintenance and care, SHERPA liners are machine washable.

Good carrier but definitely not worth full price.
By Gretchen on Dec 13, 2020
TLDR: Smaller than you think it is. No storage. As far as its main purpose goes, it's okay. The wheels are included in the height measurement so the actual body of the carrier is shorter than you think it is. My 15lb Frenchie can lay down and turn around comfortably, but there's no way she can stand up unless I open the top. The wheels are smooth and the handles feel sturdy. The flaps on the side to allow your pet to see are held open with velcro, but the velcro is not actually strong enough to hold up the little flaps, so honestly don't even bother. Get your pet used to being in the carrier when it's dark because those flaps won't hold up when you start moving. There is literally TLDR: Smaller than you think it is. No storage. It has one pocket on the top that's the size of a box of mac and cheese. I could only get a few extra rolls of poop bags, some wipes, and the least in there. Prepare to bring another bag for any supplies your pet may need. Obviously, these things don't HAVE to be in a carrier to make it good, but it's kind of ridiculous to pay this much for a carrier that's this simple. If this carrier was under $40 I would consider buying it again, but since it is almost $100 I'm gonna say to just save your money and try another carrier. … more

absolute best dog carrier for Southwest Airlines
By carrier on Dec 15, 2020
I previously had the Sherpa shoulder bag but got tired of my dog getting banged up against my hip while walking through the airport. So I got this wheeled carrier. I was very nervous about it because the dimensions seem to exceed the airline under-seat measurements. I mostly fly Southwest and can honestly say this carrier fits with NO problems under the middle seat. The aisle under-seat is do-able but right. It will NOT fit under the window seat. I cannot speak for other airlines. I love the little flag that comes with this carrier. People think I am pulling a carryon bag but when they look closer I get lots of, “”Ooh, there’s a pet in there.” Love the vent-able sides on this to allow for I previously had the Sherpa shoulder bag but got tired of my dog getting banged up against my hip while walking through the airport. Great carrier
By MerryG on Feb 8, 2021
My largest cat Onyx is 21.5lbs and fit comfortably in this very sturdy carrier. The ability to open any side so he & I could see each other was a nice feature. Glides beautifully & smooth!

Saved my back
By AugieMom on Feb 7, 2021
Quality built, wheel rollers are excellent. Having to carry my 19 lb dog in a carrier from the ticket check into the plane was not an easy task for me.

Nice bag but MUCH smaller than advertised
By mstarr on Nov 12, 2020
I ordered this bag for an upcoming flight with my 11# chihuahua. She can lay down in it but cannot sit or stand. It says that it is almost 11" tall but that must be including the wheels because the interior is only ~8" tall. This says that it can fit a 22# animal and that is NOT true (maybe if you have an extremely obese toy breed???). I honestly would not put anything other than a toy breed dog in this carrier.

I pulled this carrier out of box to transport puppy and it’s not sewn properly on the top flap

Wheels good BUT
By Mouf on Nov 22, 2020
While it’s good to have the wheels, I feel it’s not high enough and there’s not enough storage space for other things the other Sherpa carry case had w/o wheels.

Looks ok for a VERY small pet!
By Bport on Jul 25, 2020
I ordered 4 carriers from Chewy for flying with my 14 lb. Havanese. My dog is 12" tall from floor to top of his back (not including his head). He is 16" long. I ordered the large. The box says the carrier is 20" long by 12.25" wide by 10.5 high as is in the Chewy description. This is a large. There is no way I can take my puppy in this. The carrier is actually 18" long by 12.25" wide by 9.5" high. Sherpa is counting the height of the wheels. AND, I have no idea where they are coming up with the length of the 20". Including the box??? But again, my dog is only 12" tall and it's way too small for him.

Comfy, a Bit Snug
By MeowMs on Jul 22, 2020
As soon as I opened the box, I put the carrier out to let the "new" smell dissipate and let my cat get used to it. It took a few days, but then she walked right in, lay down and went to sleep. I love that the flaps open on all sides for maximum air flow. The wheels turn around freely to let me navigate the carrier easily. She's never had a road trip before, so anticipating an upcoming long road trip with her, I took her on a trial run for about two hours. Only near the end of that time did she start to get restless. I took off a star for the size: The interior cabin is a bit too small for her to turn around in (she's 13 lb).
