Feeding Instructions
Feed a limited amount of pellets (see chart below) with free choice 1st or 2nd cut grass hay (super soft 3rd cut hay is too rich). If your guinea pig doesn’t eat enough hay then feed less treats and greens. They will begin to eat more hay and drink a lot more water. For best results feed hay and pellets only.

My rescued guinea pigs look even healthier than when I got them!

I got my guinea pigs Dogberry and Squirrel from two different shelters. (Squirrel was 3 months, Dogberry was 7 months) One rescue fed Squirrel Oxbow and the other fed Dogberry a junky pellet with dried corn pieces and grains. They were both healthy looking pigs that loved to run around. At first I put them on Oxbow Adult Guinea Pig Pellets and they were fine, but once I did some more research and put them on Sherwood pellets they slowly started looking and acting even healthier! Their coats are shinier, they’re bursting with energy, and they can jump so high! I’m happy to pay a premium to give my piggies the best of the best! Dogberry didn’t like the taste much at first but he slowly started to like them. Don’t give up on Sherwood and don’t put your pigs back on their previous tastier & grain riddled pellets! It’s the difference between veggies and bread for these little guys.
Sherwood rocks
My guinea pig eats these , they are not his favorite. Their cranberry supplement plus their pellets really help with sludge. Thank you for carrying them.

Recently I’ve taken in two guinea pigs who were being fed sugary muesli kibble. I have three rabbits who truly excel on the rabbit pellets from Sherwood and figured I’d get the same for the piggies. Because they were already sugar fiends, it took them a little bit to warm up to this brand and now they munch on it occasionally. It’s only been a couple weeks but they’ve shown a lot more personality and are keeping weight well. I’m sure with time things will keep improving!
My guinea pig won't eat it

Disappointed, as so many reviews were great! My guinea pig has been losing interest in his previous pellets, so I thought trying a new one would be a good idea. Since all the reviews were good, I was hopeful. But, my guinea pig literally won't touch them. It's odd- we've used the Sherwood recovery food since the Critical care shortage, but he won't touch the pellets.

The claims are (mostly) true!

My piggies used to wolf their (major brand) pellets, and their poop, if I let it build up more than a few days, would stink. Since switching to this food, they need a smaller volume of pellets each day, and by the end of the week (even if I slacked a bit on daily cleanings) their enclosure barely smells at all. I know it's not sorcery. It's just that cheaper pellets contain a lot of fillers in the way of wheat middlings and other non-helpful stuff. And after digestion, that becomes smellier poop (and maybe smellier pee? Not sure.) If you're on the fence because of the price give this a try... but... guinea pigs are wary of changes to their food. You need to buy it before you run out of whatever you're using now, and each day mix in a little more of the new food until they're fully switched. 10 days transition is great if you can, but 7 is workable. Any less and they might realize something changed and get wary. Granted they'll eventually get hungry and eat the new food anyway, and even get used to it, but I feel it's kindest to transition them gradually if you can.

The Piggies like it. They don't LOVE IT. The biggest draw back and why I won't order this food again is the ODOR. My piggies have a large CONDO (I call it the Pig Pen) in our Living Room, so I would not recommend this for inside of your house. It seems very healthy for them, but I won't buy this one again.
