After trying every available small pony fly mask for 22 yrs, my American Show Pony (Hackney x Modern Shetland) has a mask that fits. Short enough in the face length, broad enough between the eyes, and the jowl length is perfect. I love the fleece wrap interior over the brow seam as it helps to keep the mask material away from his face and his prominent eyes. The elastic behind the ears helps keep this mask smoothly against his head, no gaps behind those little ears. Twin velcro straps help keep his mask on during his daily rolls, though I would like to see double locking velcro for security. Finally, a big horse style mask for a sharp little guy. Well designed.
Durable and No Rubs!

I have an Appaloosa mare that has to wear a fly mask year-round. On top of that, she is thin-skinned and allergic to bug bites, so in the summer she can get very itchy and will rub on anything she can. To that end, she destroys fly gear regularly. The Shires masks are the only ones that last a whole season, which for us, is about 6 months. She wears Shires in the winter too, just one without ears, which can last two winters, since she isn't itching as much. Since my mare also spends much of her year in masks, she can't wear anything that irritates her coat or skin. I've never had any rubs or discomfort with Shires - even when the fleece starts to get dirty, it's fluffy enough to be ok for a while until I clean it again. I have had Shires masks going on four years now and it's the only brand I purchase. A note if you haven't bought them before: they run quite large, if your horse wears a standard full or horse size bride, order a cob. Oversize or Warmblood types can fit in the horse size. And bonus - they can be washed in your washing machine! (but I recommend line drying unless you want to air-fluff to get the hair out.)

The other brand I have used for my small pony didn't fit right. The pony size was too large, and I had to add extra length to the Velcro for the mini size to get it to work. This is made with sturdy materials and it provides great protection.

I have a big headed 16.2 hand stocky Foundation Quarter horse. This is the first fly that I have found in years that fits perfectly. I chose the Full X-tra Lg. So I think sizes are spot on. It is made of quality materials, quality construction. Seriously this ones a Keeper!

Shires products are very good quality. My mart rubs a lot on trees because of allergies to gnats. Shires masks stand up well, never tear. I like the mesh part of the mask because the mesh is tight enough to keeps the bugs out, and light enough my mare can still see well. I highly recommend.

I was really surprised when I received the Shires fly mask on how well it is made and how well it fits. The mask provides adequate room around the eyes and the velcro closures have a lot of room for adjustment. In addition, I was looking for spa protection due to my horse suffering from uveitis. It's also a really nice looking mask.
