Outstanding Chinese product
I was skeptical at first. I am a American Fish/Aquarium Hobbyist. For the money and simplicity of use, this is a great secondary or even third back up HOB. WORKS WELL ! Ditch the carbon and use purigen or other type of media.
I've had many of this type of filter over the years. This one is much like other brands in design. It is easy to set up, It is exceptionally quiet, and I like the adjustable flow feature. The UV is a bonus, though I am not sure the amount to exposure time is adequate. I have had several SunSun products (canister filters, etc) they have proven to be good quality for a reasonable price.
My water is crystal clear now
Easy 2 set up ! I wonder if i can put it on my 10 gallon?
I tried everything, wish that I’d tried this 1st!
This is one of the best investments I’ve ever made for my 30g aquarium. I had tried everything to clean it up and nothing was working. I always ended up with greenish cloudy water. After just 4 days my tank looks 10x better. I can finally see my fish again!!
I just received this filter yesterday and everything went great, it was quiet, nice flow ect. Today however it's not very quiet and the UV light is flickering. I followed the instructions, had no issue on set up, just not sure if I got a faulty one or what. I didn't run it dry or anything like that, I'm not new to fish keeping so I wouldn't make that rookie mistake.
best HOB w/ UV filter
so glad i came across this little tank saving gem ~ after using 8 different filters over a year with nothing but a cloudy tank and recently losing 7 fish i came across this HOB filter ~ i had never used a UV light bulb but read all the reviews & decided to give it a try ~ well let me tell you after struggling with a cloudy tank for almost two years ~ i tried all the top filters but nothing & i do mean nothing has ever worked except for this little gem which is now the only filter i will ever buy!! ~ it started to clear up within one day and by day three it was so crystal clear that i could see every fish so clearly ~ i've had it running for one week now and it's so amazingly quiet and so simple to put together ~ just wish there were spare parts for it ~ i would HIGHLY recommend this filter with the built in UV light bulb to anyone struggling with cloudy water ~ i can tell you my fish thank this company for making this and also to chewy's 5 star service :):):):):)
I was very sceptical about this item. But it IS the best filter I ever bought. It has options for how hard your filtering and how loud/hard you want it to come out of the filter. My tank was a murky green and now its clear! Will be buying it again when get a bigger tank.
Been struggling with green water. Ive done everything. I had my water tested, tried every chemical, even bought a really expensive filter and nothing. I bought this as a last resort and ive had clear water since! Finally!!! Only down fall im seeing is i cant seem to find replacement filters
Good idea but not well put together
This was a very good concept of a Filter. But it needs to actually work for it to actually be a good concept. I believe the UV bulb is not powerful enough. But still a good idea concept ,because of the media there and the filter sponge is perfect. The two filter boxes you can actually fill up your media is perfect. It seems that the filter is just put together to fast the pumping system is not very good. There is no incoherent instructions on how to work the flow of the filter.
Versatile HOB Filter
I'm running the 500 on my 20H and love it. You can adjust the filter basket however you like, which is a feature that can be hard to find in an HOB filter (I added Purigen and a nitrate-reducing filter pad, plus some extra ceramic media). It's not the quietest filter I've ever had, but it's no worse than the hum of a refrigerator. The adjustable flow is great for feeding time to keep food from being sucked up before the fish have a chance to eat it, but be careful. The knobs can pop off (though they'll pop right back in). The filter does need to be primed when you turn it on, but that's maybe an extra 20-30 seconds of work, so no big deal. For the price you pay and what you get (surface skimmer, UV light, customizable media basket, adjustable flow), this filter is hard to beat.
