Think twice before buying
I bought this to replace an Aqueon that stopped working after about a year. This was easy to set up, and does a great job filtering the water. The major problem is the noise. I never thought such a small filter could make so much noise. I can hear it over the window a/c. Very disappointed.
Great filter
Got this for my 40 gallon I've had fish tanks and filters before but none like this one having more then one bio sponge and filter cartridge is fantastic it has cleaned my tank and the water is staying clear and clean also love that you can control the flow of it it is kinda loud but most machines make noise of some kind very pleased with the purchase.
Works well, but not quiet.
A great working filter, and filters are very reasonable. However, if you need a super quiet filter, go for another one. With tank in a bedroom, would be annoying.
Good filter
I’ve owned aquariums for the past 20 years, and I’ve always used Whisper filter systems, they last years, work great, and keep the water crystal clear. My fish: Marigold, Marble, Paprika, Sage, Lemonade, Coco, Creamsicle, Maple & Tiramisu are healthy and happy. I downgraded my tank from a 55 gal. To a 30 but I still use the dual filter system because I like to change the cartridge one at a time to keep the good bacteria going at all times. The water is always crystal clear!
Good but.....
Replaced a previous Whisper filter that was probably 20+ years old. This new one works great but it is considerably noisier than the old one. That said, the filter works great, is easy to maintain and would recommend it over the Aqueon which is VERY noisy.

"Whisper" is just a name. This filter makes a grinding sound louder than any other filter I have ever bought, and we have 7 tanks both saltwater and fresh. We know filters. We can hear it all the way down a long hallway from the living room. Followed all instructions. Would not buy again, and do not recommend it. We unplugged it after a day and will only use it again if we are in a pinch. I understand why is it cheaper than others.
Whisper... hahaha not! More like Grinder
So these filters are so NOT what they used to be. I replaced my old filter unit knowing that Whispers were stellar products in the past but they are far from whispering these days it's more like grinding. I can hear it 2 rooms away from the tank and I have bad hearing as well... not good. Disappointed customer here...I am requesting a refund and I'll keep my old one since the whisper is not even doing half the job my Penguin was doing. SMH
Do not buy
I purchased this filter and it was in use for not even a month and then stopped working, since I was still in my 30 days I called to get a replacement. The same thing happened with the replacement.
Pretty good
This is alittle louder than the aqueon but it does seem to circulate water and filter well.
Keeps stopping
The first one I bought kept stopping. Got it replaced and now the second one is doing the same. Don't buy this one.
