Took my senior pug out for a drive in this extremely sturdy dog crate from Thule. Now, he’s used to riding up in the seat, completely free, as a person would. So he gives this crate a zero star review for comfort and visibility. That being said, from an actual people perspective, I think this crate was designed more for a working or sporting class dog, in the bed of a pick up truck, where it would do quite nicely strapped down with the provided straps. But it also fit neatly in the back of my Honda CRV as long as I put the seats down. It’s slightly in the heavier side, extremely durable, as if made to withstand regular impact. I do like that my pet is safe but it’s a little disappointing that you can’t break it down for space and it’s heavy. So I docked a star for that and having to assemble it. While not too complicated the assembly was very tedious and time consuming. Overall, senior pug says: like a jail cell! My final thoughts? Same. A very sturdy doggy jail cell!

To say I am impressed is an understatement! My husband is active duty military and we travel and move A LOT! In the last 7 years, we've lived in 4 states, on opposite sides of the country each time! My pets have some serious mieage under their collars. One thing I am always focused on is how to make their trips as stress free as possible! I have found myself buying multiple cheap kennels each time we did a PCS move then donating or tossing them because they didn't work for us or they didn't survive the trip. There isn't much this kennel wouldn't survive. The box it was shipped in was so well packed and so sturdy that I am saving it as a moving box. The crate itself is SOLID! I feel my dog will be safer in that crate than I am driving. Assembly was easy and took me less than 30 minutes working alone. Had someone assisted by holding parts in place, it would've easily been 10 minutes. The parts are labeled and once you orient yourself to the instruction pictures, you'll fly through it! The crate is adjustable by a couple of inches. I can place it in the back of my 2020 Mazda CX5 with the seats up and the crate fully extended. The door opens fully and my favorite part, it's held open with a hydraulic opener!!! No more smashed fingers or struggling with a slamming door! This is the Cadillac of dog crates!!! My Zooey is about 12 lbs and 18 or so inches long. She has plenty of space for bed, toys, road trip snacks, whatever!! I really want to reiterate, this is a seriously well built, seriously amazing crate! It's heavy, but I can manage moving it solo. If you're looking for a solid kennel, with a door that latches and has a keyed lock, this is it!!!

It's really heavy, so we built it outside and haven't strapped it into our car yet - but the quality of this crate is unmatched. In fact, until we need it in the car, we're absolutely going to use it in the house. It even has a lock and keys for additional security! It's very expensive, but you get what you pay for.

It isn't going to slide around, and it even has an escape hatch that faces the front of the car. So that if you are ever rear ended, the pup has a safe escape out of the other end. This crate is designed and built to keep your dog safe in a crash. It is very sturdy and has straps to keep the crate from moving in your vehicle. It has a very sleek design, and I like that it has plenty of ventilation. It also comes with a lock so that you can secure your dog. It does require assembly which is fairly straightforward. I found that a headlamp was useful to see how to get the screws in --you have to get the holes aligned. Some of the angles to get the screws in are a little tricky but doable. A second person was also useful to get the front and back attached to the bottom. The crate is heavy so it is best to have 2 people lift it into the vehicle. I have different sized dogs. This crate didn't seem to be appropriate for my 12 lb dog (even though it is a Small crate) as it seemed that he could get his head through the slats. It did work well for my 26 lb dog although I'd recommend using a bed or blanket for the floor to make it more comfy.

This crate seems very sturdy which is very important when it comes to safety in case of an accident. It fit well in my car but you do have to be mindful of the dimensions since it is a bulky crate. I can’t attest to the 100% safety of my dog in the case of an accident as I have luckily not been in one since I received the product but I can say I’m more comfortable with my dog in this as opposed to any other alternatives in the market.
