Wonderful!
I have an 80pound Pitbull who is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms & fireworks. He is on Trazadone but still needed more help. I ordered the thundershirt not expecting great results. About 2 days after I got it we were expecting severe thunderstorms. I put the thundershirt on h and gave him his meds about 2 hours before the storms hit. I was amazed!!! Although he still panted and trembled, he was not pacing frantically or staring at the walls. He was ae to lay down! ItIt took him a short period, maybe 20 minutes, to calm down after the storm. This usually took 1 1/2 yo 2 hours. I highly recommend the thundershirt!!
Kind of works (maybe too early to tell???)
Maybe it's too early (and unfair) for this review but I think it does alleviate the anxiety to a managable level. Some of the reviews make it sound like it's a miracle. Not for my dog; especially during a storm. I can tell that the shivering is not as violent as it used to be. I still have to hold him but at least he allows me to sit down and he will sit in my lap. Before he used to get restless and want me to stand up and walk around. Maybe it will improve as he wears it more and more.
A great help for anxiety!
My Brittany pup gets anxiety on car rides and cries when left alone in the crate. This thunder shirt is a big help! It’s like giving a little hug to help her feel more secure. After a few uses, she now curls up and takes a nap while wearing this, which is far better than the previous shaking, panting and drooling anxiety! It’s lightweight material so it’s not really a weighted vest, but it does give a nice little hug when secured around the dog’s body. The lightweight material is welcome in hotter climates so the dog doesn’t heat up while wearing.
It's the best thing I've tried
My senior citizen dog has lost some vision and some hearing and now things scare her. This thundersweater has been the best thing I've tried. She has been on two different medications, but they take so long to work and her panic attacks lasted so long. I put the thundersweater on and she is instantly comforted. She seems happy to have me put it on her. Thank you
Really wanted it to work but....
I went back and forth for months on whether to purchase this for my pup who has major stress issues when she hears thunder even when its so far away we can't even hear it yet. I finally took the plunge but it was a complete BUST. Did not even touch her level of anxiety. I tried multiple times but never saw any results. I think it would be great if it works for your pup but sadly did not for mine. I gave it 2 stars cause it seems to be a quality item but fails in its purpose for us.
Highly recommend
Our completely housebroken Beagle would not stop peeing in the house at night. After determining it was likely due to anxiety, we weren't sure what to do. A friend at work bought a Thundershirt for her Yorkie who was scratching his hide off due to anxiety. Seeing the significant difference in his scratching after just putting his shirt on encouraged me to buy one and try it out. I can happily report that our Beagle has not peed in the house in 35 nights! We put the shirt on her around 9 each night and take it off of her in the mornings. She loves her shirt and gets excited when she knows it's time to put it on. I highly recommend getting one if your pooch suffers from any type of anxiety!
High quality, not for every dog (ironically; particularly sound reactive dogs)
This isn't necessarily a reflection of the product, but I think it's fair to warn other dog owners that the sound of the velcro when removing the shirt could freak out your dog. My usually calm and friendly Treeing Walker Coonhound freaked out at the sound of the velcro so close to his ears, and nipped at me when I was removing the velcro. So if you have a sound reactive dog, watch out for the velcro!
Definitely works
I have a Belgian Malinois that is high strung as it is but when she hears thunder and feels the drop in the barometric pressure, she is unbearable. This vest is the best thing since sliced bread. During bad weather, she stays calm in her kennel and don’t move until I let her out.
This works
I really didn’t expect this to work, but it does seem to be working. Our Lab is afraid of gunshots, fireworks, thunder, etc. I put it on her the first time with very positive reinforcement and treats, so now when she needs it, she doesn’t mind and she is much calmer with it on. I would recommend this over calming pills, which don’t work for her.
It helps, I was doubtful
Didn’t think this would help, but was at a loss how to help my dog. He hates Thunder storms. It calmed him to a 3 on scale to 10 full blown panic. I am impressed, and I don’t impress easily.
