FAQ
Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.
Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:
- Your pet has trouble taking pills but will take medication in a flavored liquid or other form.
- Your pet needs medication in a strength that is not commercially available.
- Your pet is allergic to a specific ingredient in a medication.
Always talk with your veterinarian about any concerns you have about your pets health so they can prescribe a treatment for your pets unique needs.

It is not required to have a written prescription on hand when you place your order, but Chewy Pharmacy must have a patient-specific prescription from a licensed veterinarian on file before it can dispense a medication. At checkout, simply select: I want Chewy to contact my vet, and we will contact your veterinarian on your behalf to get your pets prescription. If you prefer and have a written prescription when you place your order, you can mail it to: Chewy Pharmacy, 3621 Fern Valley Rd, Louisville, KY 40219. Mailing in a prescription will likely lead to longer ship times.

Chewy ensures timely RX delivery

When another online pharmacy started to slip on delivery timeline, risking the timely dosing of our medically sensitive dog, chewy promptly placed, approved through our vet, shipped, and delivered our meds. It took less time for chewy to handle all of processing and delivery than it did for the online competitor to cancel our initial order. Chewy is a godsend for our sanity and their customer service is unbeatable. Thanks for being awesome!
Just as good as the name brand
My dear little Ruby has Cushings and she requires a dosage not available in the brand drug unless I buy two separate prescriptions at three times the cost of this
My dear little Ruby has Cushings and she requires a dosage not available in the brand drug unless I buy two separate prescriptions at three times the cost of this compounded formula from Chewy. She has been using this for a year now and has been tested repeatedly at a specialist’s clinic and UF. The drug is working as it should. The Chewy pharmacy makes this so easy with great customer support and fast, pinpoint tracked delivery. You won’t go wrong with Chewy.

I had to place a special order for this medication for my dog. The man on the phone found just the right dosage and had it sent to me right away. So far, my dog is doing well on this medication (Trilostane) and hasn’t had any side effects. I really appreciate the help so I could get just the right dose for my dog.
Savings
I tried Chewy for my first prescription with a discount. It’s a bit less expensive than the pet pharmacy my veterinarians clinic uses. Good thing is, the capsules
I tried Chewy for my first prescription with a discount. It’s a bit less expensive than the pet pharmacy my veterinarians clinic uses. Good thing is, the capsules are a little bit larger than the ones from the veterinarian clinic. I have a small 9 pound dog, but I am still able to get the pill down her throat. I like the convenience of chewy.

Who knew?
We switched from the liquid version back to pills because it was actually too high of a dose in liquid form for our dog. Never knew it would make a difference
We switched from the liquid version back to pills because it was actually too high of a dose in liquid form for our dog. Never knew it would make a difference. Our vet found the meds at a price we could afford and our pup is doing better on the right dose. He’s had Cushings for over 5 years mostly controlled by the meds.
Works
My vet was hesitant about using compounded trilostane instead of name brand Veteryl, but I was maxed out financially on my dog’s other meds so we gave this a try
My vet was hesitant about using compounded trilostane instead of name brand Veteryl, but I was maxed out financially on my dog’s other meds so we gave this a try. She has been on it for a couple years now and it has been working well. We have not had any issues with it.
Negative reaction to the dosage.
We think the dosage was too high. She would just sit like she was staring off in to space.

Wonderfully Effective
After our 12-year-old boxer-lab mix began taking trilostane to treat her vet-diagnosed Cushing's disease, she was like a new dog: no more gulping water, no more
After our 12-year-old boxer-lab mix began taking trilostane to treat her vet-diagnosed Cushing's disease, she was like a new dog: no more gulping water, no more accidents every day. Her appetite improved and she had more energy. Also love that these compounded versions are far more cost-effective than the name brand. While this certainly isn't a cure, her quality of life has improved dramatically.
