This enclosure has inside dimensions of 35 inches high x 19 inches wide. The clearance from the top to the middle shelf is 16 inches and from the middle shelf to the bottom. it's 14 inches. It can fit an average size litter box.

Is it possible to not include the middle shelf? And what is the box made from - ie, is it water/urine resistant?

Trixie do not recommend making any changes to the provided blueprint as this may interfere with the structural integrity of the item. This enclosure is for indoor use only and is not treated with weather/water resistance.

What dimension is the middle shelf to accommodate a litter mat?

The shelf panel measures 21.75 inches long x 19.25 inches wide x 0.5 inches thick. However, there is a cutout on the shelf panel to allow your cat entry to the litter box. Please refer to the photo below:

Too small for my male tabby.

In the past I bought a very similar litter cabinet for our petite female cat. It has been great to keep our dogs out, prevent litter tracking and keep the litter box discreet. I guess this 2nd litter cabinet was just a bit too small for our young male tabby cat. The old cabinet worked out just fine for him but this new one seems like the shelf inside might be slightly lower than our first litter cabinet, despite all the other dimension being the same. He wasn’t able to squat down fully in this one which caused him to spray over the litter box and we ended up with cat urine leaking out of the cabinet. I ended up replacing this cabinet with a much larger one I found from a different website and that one works perfectly for us. I really wish this one was just a tiny bit bigger to fit my male cat comfortably since this cabinet wasn’t cheap. I would only recommend this cabinet if your cats are petite.

I bought this style for our bathroom to save space. I was a bit concerned about my older/less agile cat jumping through the hole bc it's so high but she's had no problems. I LOVE IT! There is almost no litter on the floor outside the box now! I put a small mat inside on the upper shelf just because I had it. The only thing I would improve is the width - I feel it could be 2" narrower so I wouldn't have to sweep up all that extra, useless space. The litter box itself is 17.7"W x 21.5"D.

Contains the cat litter

This item is the only product so far that I have found actually keeps the cat litter inside for those with litter kicking cats. I use this with Chewy’s crystal cat

This item is the only product so far that I have found actually keeps the cat litter inside for those with litter kicking cats. I use this with Chewy’s crystal cat litter (they’re larger crystals than Pretty Litter’s). The only downside is any moisture that gets outside of the cat box immediately causes warping of the white coating on the pressboard “wood”. We’ve only had this a week and I am trying to find a cat box that fits the lower level but prevents my male cat from peeing up the side. I’ve got a top down cat litter box with 14” sides on its way. Hoping to find the right combo before this cabinet is ruined. I would still buy this again as it’s the only cabinet that hides the cat boxes and stops litter from spreading throughout the house.

PERFECT for small spaces AND keeps litter scatter under control!

Not to be dramatic, but I don't know how I lived without this for the 2 years I was an indoor cat owner before this amazing contraption came into my life. Two reasons: 1. It's attractive! Hard to hide a litter box in a 1-bedroom apartment, but this makes it easy and guests are always shocked that my litter box is literally hidden in plain sight in my living room. 2. More importantly, it has done WONDERS to minimize the amount of litter all over my floor! With two cats, I was constantly finding little crystals of litter (I use the silica gel stuff, love it btw) ALL OVER THE APARTMENT. This two-story tower forces them to jump from the box onto the second story and scatter all the litter inside the tower before exiting, thereby minimizing the amount of litter that ends up on my floor. Don't get me wrong, there is still litter on my floor, but it is a FRACTION of what was there before. If you live in a small space and/or if you have an issue with litter all over your entire life, YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS. The price and the pain of putting it together is sooooo worth it.

Having 2 kitties in the home, we try to give them options for bathrooms to avoid territory wars (and no one wants to use a box that was already used). I was a little worried reading reviews from other litter box furniture that said their cats never figured out how to use it. But, as you can see from the picture, our cat figured it out immediately. Once built (I did this in under 2 hours), the cats immediately jumped in to inspect. Litter box was used the same day. Our friends came over and didn't realize there was a litter box inside. We're thinking about getting more for the other litter boxes in the house.

We got this to keep our dog out of the litter box. It works! I keep a stool in front of the opening, so our chunky cat can easily enter, but she can jump in without it. Our litter box has high sides, but I do have to clean a little strewn litter inside and near the box. A hand vac takes care of it in a couple of minutes. I am super happy with this purchase.
