I love this scratching post and I'm going to buy another. It is the heaviest one I've ever bought. It doesn't budge when they scratch it. It's on the short side but my 2 big British Shorthairs still like it. My smaller 12 lb cat likes to climb it and sit on top. I really like that the post is off center so that I can slide it under furniture. It's a little pricey but I think it is worth it for the quality - I'm tired of flimsy, wobbly scratching posts. This company also makes a taller one with a perch that is very nice.
This scratcher is nice looking overall. I needed a shorter sturdy scratcher for a tricky space next to my couch and this fit the bill. I don’t think it’s worth the cost the way the SmartCat Ultimate Scratcher is. The wood on top looks like laminate. There were no holes in the fabric for the screws to go through so I poked them through with a screwdriver and that worked fine. The seam on the scratcher is already coming unraveled where cats scratch so I will be taking it apart and turning it so the seam is away from where the cats scratch. I can already tell it is a low quality item that won’t last long, but it looks nice…. Kind of on par with Ikea.
These are Fantastic!! Very heavy so they are not tipped over by our largest cat - a Main Coon who weights 22#. One of the best I have ever bought and well worth the money. It would have been easier to put together if 2 people - just took me a little longer as putting the base on and making sure the screws lined up was very time consuming, awkward and hard on my wrists and arms (arthritis). The fleece bottom is the only con - it will not stand up at all. I wish they had used carpet. When it is shredded I plan to paint the bottom and hope it works out (or get very light carpet so the screws will go through if I feel ambitious). Overall these are Great, I bought 2 more as very happy with them.
My two boys LOVE LOVE LOVE this scratching post, I hear and see them on it constantly and they seem so satisfied. The extra size and weight is perfect for cats to vigorously scratch to their hearts’ content knowing the post isn’t going to budge. Well worth the price. I’m going to get another. Oh, and it looks great.
Good quality BUT the holes necessary to assemble the product were missing
I purchased this because of the 5-star ratings from other kitty parents. There isn’t anything special about this scratching post to justify its higher price. I have two Persians. One has scratched at it twice and the other one won’t even go near it.
My humans and I love this scratching post. It is sturdy, seems almost indestructible, and most important, doesn't tip over on top of me when I'm really going at it with my claws. It allows me to stretch to my full height with space to spare and no worry about it falling on top of me. Highly recommend.
I’ll start with the positives. It’s really nice looking and appears to have decent components. The original and my replacement products did not include screws or hardware to assemble. To save others the tedious trial and error- the replacement screw picked up at a hardware store is M8 x1.25x50 (metric). The wood cap on the first one was also broken in the package. They are also fairly lazily finished. The holes where the screws go through are covered with fabric so I ended up melting holes for the screws to go through. The replacement was really dirty- it looked like someone used it as a foam roller in a warehouse for a few weeks before shipping out. Anyway, overall after some effort in finding screws and sanding the unfinished wood parts I’m pretty happy with it. This should be sold as a builders kit and not a complete product. YMMV. Also, Chewy made very good on this and gave me a refund. They send a replacement very quickly.
Read a lot about scratching posts. The mat sisal material is supposedly to last much longer than sisal rope. Have a very tall mat sisal finish post and it is much more durable than sisal rope. Glad I found this when it needed a small one. Very nice and very durable.
Very sturdy but my cats aren't too interested. They do lay on the soft lower part occasionally.
