These Cichlid stones are made of ceramic. They are durable and will remain unchanged for hundreds if not thousands of years. Some people love the algae to grow on them as it grows on everything in an aquarium. If you want to clean the algae off them you need only to take the stone or other ornament you need only to remove it from the aquarium and scrub it with come salt, rinse it off and return it. You do not need to wash the inside of the stones; any bacteria that is on the interior surface is good for the aquarium and should be left there. It helps with keeping the water healthy for the fish.
The stones can be stacked, piled, and turned any which way to create a lightweight rockscape which becomes an excellent habitat enhancement for fish. The complex environment of nooks, crevices and caves will reduce stress and promote harmony, and soon you will likely be seeing more interesting natural behaviors from your pets! A small distance between holes is suggested so that the fish that chose a stone for their home will not feel crowded with their neighbors.

I ordered these for some extra hidey spots for my Kuhli Loaches. They use them on occasion but their fave spot is under the mopani wood. Came with a nice variety - 2 large and 1 small. I placed one of the large caves and the small cave in my 10 gallon tank. I'm keeping the other large cave in storage as a back up. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it! It also has nice flat surfaces for my otocinclus to rest on!
The clay cichlid rocks are packaged very well and your can arrange them many different ways
The openings had VERY sharp edges on the inside and outside. The small stone was even a little jagged with sharp excess pieces on the entry hole. These edges will certainly injure your fish, kuhli loaches, African dwarf frogs, Etc. I was so disappointed. HOWEVER, there is hope!!! I was able to easily file down the inside and outside edges of the openings with a nail file and it didn't take very much effort to smooth the edges nicely. This could also probably be done with some sandpaper as well with a bit more effort. Really make sure to smooth that inner lip, and not just the outside of the opening. There were spots that were ridiculously sharp, but now they're great. It created a lot of fine dust, so make sure to rinse them thoroughly when done.
The openings to these are a lot smaller than expected; it did not take long for our fish to outgrow them. They’re also very light and are moved around easily by our big ol sucker fish. They do look neat as decorations, though I wish our fish could have used them longer.
The fish definitely like them and they look good in the tank.
The caves are a lot smaller than I expected. Luckily I have some juvenile dempseys and convicts for 2 of them. And I have some Dempsey fry for the smallest one.
I got these for my Rams, they are not using them much but they do look good in the tank and the loaches and catfish seem to like them.
The stones brought my tank to life. I have a 3 dimensional rock background and the stones are just what my tank needed to tie it all together
They fit perfectly in my planted aquarium. I don't know if they look 100% natural, but I like these ceramic ones much more than the resin type decorations.
Great buy well worth it.give a very real look in the tank 2 thumbs up
