Required a lot of work to be suitable

We are new guinea pig parents, and although we conducted extensive research before bringing our guys home, we failed miserably in selecting a suitable home for them. Firstly, we selected paper bedding and mistakenly thought the raised bar above the removeable tray would be enough to keep the bedding materials inside the enclosure. After the first week of constant sweeping and vacuuming of paper, hat, and waste, we switched to fleece bedding, and fleece side panels to keep everything from hitting the floor. Due to the dimensions of this enclosure, there are no suitable pre-made options that were remotely affordable, so I handmade 3 waterproof fleece liners. But guinea pigs mess alot, way more than I expected, and they won't use the upper floors, as detailed below, so I made 4 more so we can change them out daily. Hay sticks to them and they are difficult to keep swept up. In addition, I have now learned that guinea pigs do not like heights, and their toenails do not grip well to the ramps. So, I had to make fleece tunnels to help them feel more secure using the ramps, based on several suggestions online, only to realize the tunnels fall off the ramps, so then I had to carpet the ramps and add side rails. I also had to add safety rails to the ledges, as the piggies kept knocking their beds and toys off the upper floors, and I was afraid they'd fall. Finally, the side bars are the cages to high to hang toys from, so I had to add hooks to the upper levels so I could hang the toys. After all that work, I think they are enjoying their new home better, and cleaning/maintenance has become much easier for our kids. I do want to say that it was fairly easy to assemble, and I am not what one would call handy with tools, etc. (my husband quips that I would be the only person in the world that could build a birdhouse that would be condemned on site). We very much like the large storage compartment, and that the cage rolls and moves easily for cleaning. We have no had any issues with the piggies chewing on the wood, as I believe they dislike the coating. The enclosure seems sturdy and well made. I rated two stars mainly because the cage dimensions are so far off from standard enclosures, and that they do not seem to really be designed for the needs of guinea pigs.
Disappointed
Holes weren’t drilled in correct spots so had to make new ones since put together mostly and didn’t want to deal with shipping back. Door not lined up correctly
