The Raw Truth
Every cat deserves the benefits of raw protein. Vital Essentials frozen patties offer whole-animal nutrition with Butcher Cut Protein in a variety of flavors. Just thaw, serve, and watch your cat thrive with complete and balanced raw nutrition.

Your Cat Needs Meat Cats are obligate carnivores who can’t survive without meat. Built to hunt, cats need high protein, moderate fat, and low carbs. They also need nutrients like taurine and vitamin A from whole animal proteins like those found in Vital Essentials.

No Shortcuts. Only Butcher Cuts.
Vital Essentials Butcher Cut Proteins go into a blast freezer at -23°F within 45 minutes of harvest. The meat is ground only once to preserve the natural flavor and texture your cat craves. This minimal processing maximizes nutrients for your cat, too.

Convenient Frozen Raw Duck Option

These are conveniently sized frozen pucks of raw duck 'entree' that I can take from the freezer to fridge in the evening and it's soft enough to feed by morning. I like that the first ingredients listed are duck, duck gizzard, duck liver and herring oil. From there, there are only 6 other ingredients in this food. My cats already eat 100% frozen raw diet so incorporating this gently and in small doses to their current raw worked out just fine. All cats are different but my 3 were a bit picky and hesitant to eat this until I mixed it in thoroughly with their current food. But so far after about a week none have had an adverse reaction and do see to look forward to this new flavor profile.
Really convenient. Easy to thaw and serve.

My 28 oz. package of Duck Entree Raw Mini Patties arrived well frozen and upon opening it everything was intact and in great shape. The patties are square shaped, thin and compact, approximately sized 2.75x2.75x0.5 inches. The dimensions of the patties make them easy and quick to thaw. Once thawed I add just a little bit of water to thin out the texture to my cats' liking and gently warm cat food before I serve it. After prepping it up. it has really nice texture. I didnt really detect any scent. I have two cats that will eat this protein served raw, and one of them absolutely loved it the way I served it. She is the least picky of the bunch. My other is interested and with a topper and some more water added to thin it out a bit more for her, she took to it. For my cats, some customization with texture by adding a bit of water is a must. Both liked the product. I find the serving sizes and ease of thawing to be really convenient. The size of my cats will require 2.5 patties for each cat per day. The package will fulfill about a week's worth of food for just one cat and this will be great to fill in with for something quick when needed.

Product came well packaged and shipped on ice. You can pull one frozen patty out at a time and then thaw it in the fridge overnight for use. Instructions say to slowly mix it in with your cats food over time. I decided to give it to them as a late night treat just to see if they would even like it as a small quantity. Only one out of four cats seemed to like it at all. Given it’s a little bit of a bloody mess to prepare not my favorite though the health benefits may outweigh this if that’s a pet parents concern.

I have a special-needs kitty that has IBD. My vet recommended trying to slowly incorporate raw food into his diet. He is not a huge fan of duck dry food, but my vet felt duck would be more palatable to him. This came wonderfully packed/shipped. You keep a patty frozen until you need to feed it. Unfortunately my cat has not eaten any of it. The nice thing about it is, you can cut it and take what you need. He is extremely picky so my hopes were not high. I’m going to try this over the next six weeks and see if I can get him to eat more and more each day. The good news about this is you only take out what you need, so for a slow Introduction, this works great.
Mixed Experience – Not Ideal for Every Pet Owner

My experience with this raw cat food was unfortunately not the best, though I can see how it might work well for others under different circumstances. First, the delivery was disappointing. Despite the box being clearly labeled as perishable, the product was left outside in the Florida heat, which raised concerns about food safety right from the start. The handling and preparation instructions felt overwhelming, especially for someone with a busy schedule. Preparing raw food safely takes time and attention, and the process was a bit more involved than I expected. The cleanup afterwards was also messier than anticipated. Most importantly, none of my cats showed any interest in the food, which was surprising and disappointing given the product’s claims. That said, I believe this could be a great fit for someone who has just one cat, especially if that cat is already accustomed to raw food. It may also be better suited to pet owners who have more flexibility in their day and are comfortable with the extra steps that raw feeding requires. Overall, it wasn't the right fit for me or my cats, but it might be worth considering if you're fully prepared for the commitment that raw feeding entails.

Emmet wouldn't eat this food. He's not normally a picky eater but he does have a sensitive stomach. I tried mixing a small abount with his usual wet food and also tried giving him a lick off of my finger (he usually will be curious and at least take a taste). In both instances he sniffed at the food but walked away. The food didn't have a strong smell so there must just be something about it that he didn't like. I was hoping to be able to give it a try because I like the idea of having frozen patties of fresh food. I plan on feeding it to the "barn kitties" so that it doesn't go to waste.

I was excited to try this new product, because of the frozen/raw aspect of the food, good ingredient list, and the fact that it was not chicken. However after providing the thawed and now room temperature food to my cats (8 cats) over a period of days, none of them were interested in it.. After a few sniffs, the cats turned away, looking for other food. Sad because they like other Vital Essentials Freeze Dried items.

Our house cat was not a fan. However, I do think it is a good product and I think other cats could be. Our cat is very particular and has had the same diet most of his life. The product itself is well packaged, looks and smells like something our friends barn cats would go crazy for.
Cats didn’t like it
It’s easy enough to thaw and feed, but none of my three cats seem to like it. I might try warming it up to see if that helps, but right now, I’ve been feeding it
