I ordered all the freeze dried meat options I could for my cool cats, the bag of minnows was the one option that was a waste of money. not only disgusting to look at, but my cats barely licked this. They looked at me like it was a bad joke, “how dare you feed this to me”
I then tried giving them to my dad’s 55lb black lab, that eats ANYTHING, and he rotated his head around the fish like he was going to be sick or something. I don’t know, I’d love to hear that cats actually eat this but it didn’t go over well here.

I've always said that, if Contessa had long hair, she'd flip it over her shoulder as she sticks her nose up and walks away from whatever she disapproves of ...and that is exactly the response I got from her AT FIRST. However, on second inspection, she decided that the ugly little minnows were "Okay". Slowly but surely, Contessa has fallen under the spell of those desiccated googley eyes and, for all I know, she is now making back-alley deals to get her "fix" of more than I serve them up to her. She has ( HORRORS!!) even gone so far as to pretend to be interested in playing with that ball of feathers on a string for about two full minutes- seemed like hours to her - and, even worse, has startedI've always said that, if Contessa had long hair, she'd flip it over her shoulder as she sticks her nose up and walks away from whatever she disapproves of ...and that is exactly the response I got from her AT FIRST. I ran out one month and purchased another brand but I may as well have just taken the money and flushed it because she was having none of that stuff. She only wants Vital Essentials brand.… more

I thought I'd try these treats out for my kitties after reading all of the review. Whenever I give the dog a treat, the kitties demand treats as well. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of trying to give them these new treats. All three (very food motivated and unpicky) kitties ran away and avoided me for the rest of the night.
I can't say that these treats are bad, just that my cats really did not like them. I'll try giving them to my dad for his cats and see how they react.

Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Minnows are exactly as advertised. Crunchy little whole fishies, nothing added or subtracted. I have 13 cats. Six are from a feral cat program that spays/neuters, vaccinates, and then finds ferals good homes with nice warm barns and people to feed them. I am trying to befriend my beautiful adopted ferals. So every time I see one I make sure I have a treat so that they associate me with good things. Not all of my kitties care for the minnows, but feral Rosie is ga-ga for them. The picture is of Rosie snacking on a pile of minnows (I did not mean to pour so many out, but she was happy about it).
Nobody liked them
on Dec 3, 2018
Well, I had high hopes for these freeze dried minnows, but none of my 10 cats (aged 2 to 19) would touch them. At all. Gave the bag to a co worker with 6 cats, and she returned them to me saying none of hers would touch them either. So 16 cats out of 16 said no. Wish I could give more stars but the cats have voted with their feet and walked away.
2 cats, different points of view.

One cat absolutely LOVES the minnows, one cat sniffs and walks away, every time. We have cut them in pieces, hydrated them, you name it... not having it. The reason this item only gets 3 stars is because of the ease of use. Having to open and close 2 seperate packages at each treat time in a bit of a pain.
My cats will do anything for these minnows!

Two of my cats LOVELOVELOVE these treats, and one shows no interest whatsoever. My dogs also come running when they see the kitties enjoying them! Not greasy or overly pungent. Just freeze-dried little minnows like the package says. They don't leave any residue or crumbs behind, and do not give my cats bad breath. These are a must-have in our household.
Hermit Crabs and Cats!

I actually bought these to feed to my hermit crabs. Now, any time i go to feed the crabs the cat comes running wanting some too. Out of our cats, only 1 likes theses. The others could care less. BUT the one cat the loves these also eats the crabs freeze dried mealworms/crickets too.
Cats Love Them

Two out of five our cats LOVE these treats. So much so that they will literally throw "fits" if they don't get them in the mornings. We also can't keep them on the counter because our savannah cat will tear open the packaging and eat them all. They have to go inside a Tupperware container and we have to hide them in one of the cupboards. I highly recommend them. But I will say that not all of our cats like them. Only our Savannah and Bombay will eat them. Not even our Bengal will touch them.
Fishies are great

Lucy loves these. She gets very excited when we give them to her. I love that it's only one ingredient. Great quality. Fish are whole and a bit firm so there is no mess. We keep them in a glass jar and they look so pretty.
