Ware Hanging Chicken Canteen

Good for 1 small animal

Perfect for what it is.

It took me a really long time to buy these because of all the negative reviews. But I took a chance and I’m really happy I did. These are not meant to be a sole source of water for your flock. Even for a small flock so please don’t buy this for that. These are meant to SUPPLEMENT the core water source. I bought a bunch of these for several reasons. I have flocks that I have merged. My old ladies and my “chicks”. The old ladies can be bullies and block the chicks from water and food. So in the run next to all their perches I have one of these hanging (with a food container at the end) It creates multiple areas so there are less arguments. I also place 2 in the coop at night so they can drink if they get thirst especially with the crazy heat we’ve had. I do the same thing for my 2 roosters; surprisingly this helps cut down on their early morning doodles. Lol….also anyone who has chickens knows how fast they make their water dirty- this allows fresh water very. So here is the thing- you have to make sure you create a vacuum seal by tipping it to the side to release the air while filling it or it will not hold the water. Some of mine work better than other for some reason. But either way for $10 it’s well worth it.

The only problem is that they are beginning to rust. I would purchase again if this were not the case. My ducks love them though!

Pleasantly surprised

This has worked well for me and my three backyard chickens. I was amazed at the bad reviews, most of which I think were due to people having no idea how to fill it properly. I filled it sideways and burped out the air pocket and it's held plenty of water to keep my three ladies happy. I change their water every day anyway so there was no problem with the size. And I love that I can adjust the height to keep out dirt and leaves

Just what I needed!

It seems many people here are confused as to how to fill this waterer. You must fill, tip it back so the water goes into the canteen, repeat this a few times until the waterer is near full, place the waterer, then fill the drinking tub. I love this item because it easily hooks to a crate and keeps the water clean.

canteen is so tiny

I was disappointed with the canteen as it is so small and does not hold the amount of water it states (16 ounces). It only fits less than 8 ounces of water. (we measured)!

Disappointed

I was very surprised at how tiny this waterer is. First thought is to return it to Chewy. Decided to go ahead and put it in the coop. It was easily installed but when i filled it with water, it immediately began leaking from the bottem. IT DOESN'T HOLD WATER! Bad weld I guess. Definitely a waste of $$$

Not really impressed

I’m disappointed with the size of this thing. I thought it would be bigger. I have 8 hens and this is not big enough for all of them. I’m refilling it several times before they’ve all had a drink.

Cool idea, bad at refilling

I got two for my 3 chickens to have in the summer. It is a good concept and solid quality of the material but it only refills such a small quantity of the lip that it is not worth the purchase. It could easily evaporate in a day even without use.
