I recently tried Withers & Withers low-sugar Nutra-Treats with my horse and overall I’m impressed. These treats are clearly designed with special dietary needs in mind (for example horses with insulin resistance or metabolic challenges) and that’s a big plus. According to the product description the “Sugar-Free Cinnamon” version is “formulated specifically for those with insulin resistance, Cushing’s or Equine Metabolic Syndrome.” What I liked: • The low-sugar / sugar-free approach is a huge benefit if your horse needs to watch carbohydrate or sugar intake. • The brand uses organic herbs and plant-based ingredients. For example, the Cinnamon version lists cinnamon bark to help sensitivity to insulin receptors and support blood-sugar control. • Good ingredient bonus: they include oat bran (soluble fiber to support immunity and regulate blood sugar) and apple powder (for GI health) plus natural sweeteners like stevia and sorbitol. • My horse seemed to accept the treat well—in terms of palatability there were no issues. • I like that the packaging is described as plant-based and compostable (at least on one product page).

I have 2 senior horses, I am limited to what treats I purchase because my oldest gelding has PPID. They have never had cinnamon before but I wanted to add a bit of variety to their diet. I felt this product was a good example of what I need for dealing with PPID. It isn't easy finding low sugar treats so I am happy to see this product being offered. I appreciate that it is organic and I also appreciate how easy they were to give to my boys. My QH was all over them, my Arabian gave them a sniff test and then decided they were ok to try. When I can find something that both boys enjoy and the treats have good ingredients I am excited to keep them on hand.

Pony won’t touch them

Pony, who eats nearly everything, will not touch the cinnamon flavored variety. She won’t even put them in her mouth.
