Difficult for older and larger cats

This cat tree is sturdy, however, not designed well. It is completely vertical with no side steps, which would be fine, however, there’s only a very small cut-out/notch

This cat tree is sturdy, however, not designed well. It is completely vertical with no side steps, which would be fine, however, there’s only a very small cut-out/notch on the second platform for the cats to jump vertically from the first platform to the second platform. My athletic cat struggled getting up and jumped down from the too-high second platform. My older cat struggled getting up and then could not get down and had to be rescued. There needs to be a side step/angle, or a bigger notch out of the second platform for them to get up and down easier. Chewy worked with me to resolve my issue, as always.
