How do you know how much to cut off, as to miss the quick?

Answer by ChewyApr 08, 2020
First, determine how much of the nail you need to cut by locating where the "quick" ends within the pets nail. Then adjust the clipper diameter to the appropriate width. In white nails, the cut surface will turn pink just before reaching the quick. This is where you should stop. In black nails, initially, the cut surface will show a white or gray center, but as you get closer to the quick, this center will turn black and eventually pink immediately before reaching the quick. Take of just a tiny bit of nail at a time to see this change, and stop when the cut surface shows a solid black center.

Does it crush the nail?

Answer by ChewyApr 13, 2020

Not so worry free

This product seemed like a good idea - sharp, less pressure needed to cut even thicker nails, won't cut the quick because of how the size is set. Advertised as safe

This product seemed like a good idea - sharp, less pressure needed to cut even thicker nails, won't cut the quick because of how the size is set. Advertised as safe even if your pet moves. The first nail I went to cut, my boy pulled away and ripped his nail in half. Because of the way the product is designed, it doesn't have a way to release any more than the size it's set to. I released the handle but the device didn't allow his nail to move freely away, catching the tip of the nail and holding it as he pulled his paw away. He's a rottie so he's a big boy. And he often pulls his paws away when I cut his nails but I've never had a problem like this. I've snipped his quick once or twice accidentally but that wasn't bad compared to having to work with the vet now and hope his nail heels properly after splitting away completely from the quick. I'll stick with regular clippers.

Splinters nails

This looked very sturdy and sharp, but it splintered every nail I tried to cut. I'd honestly like to return it because it cuts so poorly.

Nice sharp cutting blades

VERY difficult to use on our dog. She is a medium size, 42 lb, but a runner and has very delicate looking feet. The blades of the Zen Clipper I got are too large

VERY difficult to use on our dog. She is a medium size, 42 lb, but a runner and has very delicate looking feet. The blades of the Zen Clipper I got are too large and it is very difficult to get them in and around the nail/between the toes. I can't use it on her.

The size of the hole where my pup’s nail goes into to be clipped was difficult cult to effectively measure. She does not like to have her nails clipped. The length of time it took to adjust the size without obtaining the correct size created anxiety for both of us. I clipped her last nail so close I could not stop the bleeding. I will not use it again

Worry free

I love the adjustable aspect of these clippers. Wish I had had these with our last pup and we would not have trimmed her nails too short. These give me a lot more

Not for Cats - Must Explain

I’ve been having a difficult time finding a nail clipper for my cat. I had gotten one from this brand from Chewy now no longer listed. This one came up and there

I’ve been having a difficult time finding a nail clipper for my cat. I had gotten one from this brand from Chewy now no longer listed. This one came up and there were 2-3 reviews saying they’ve used it for their cats and it’s fantastic. So . . . No, not fantastic. It’s a dismal failure just like all the others for various reasons. I took a look at the company line of products and did find the one I previously used which worked perfectly so at least there is a silver lining.
