I received the Zilla cricket glow powder to feed my reptile for my honest review. I was excited to get this to try but upon receiving I read the packaging to find out that I cannot use it without a blacklight (con). I attempted to shake some powder onto my lizards crickets and it does not glow, it is intended to make it a fun meal time for us per parents to watch them catch their meal as well as help our pet see them. I was disappointed that I couldn't participate in the glowing fun but it did seem that when my lizards found their meal they are them right up. The package doesn't really say if it has any extra proteins or anything to support health of our little guys. The powder was a nice small grain and did not clump up. I wish I could of used it the way it was supposed to be used. Rating a 3 star based on not actually being able to see it glow or not. I believe it would be helpful for manufacturer to make sure it is listed that you have to have a black light to see any glowing and it think it is also important to know if there are any other benefits to using this powder for our small pets.

My daughter rescued a few frogs and toads that were abandoned in an apartment and one of the neighbors knew my daughter rescued lizards & asked if she would take the frogs & toads , so of course she did . They all are/were in bad shape , but slowly with the right set up & needs they are getting better , my daughter was looking at this powder because some of the frogs seem to miss or not see the crickets , she has been feeding those frogs with a feeding tong, but they shy away . So this came up as a free try so I had to pick it . well the shy frogs seem to eat more on their own after my daughter started using this powder the crickets do glow under the lights , there is one tiny tree frog that stays up high in his/her habitat and he/she will come down for the tiny crickets that glow , my daughter will continue to use this powder , since it is helping the frogs .
May be Better for Others But Not For Me
I feel badly but this product is not good for my African Dwarf frogs. They don't eat crickets so I could not use the product more than once. I tried to get them

I tried to get them to eat the crickets but they are strictly uninterested...and don't spend enough time out of the water to do so, even though the crickets glowed in the dark. The coolest part of this product is that it makes the crickets glow in the dark. The powder is light and does not appear to hurt the crickets or bother them in the least. I like the packaging, as well. It's not the fault of the product that this experience was a bust. I don't have the right kind of frogs, unfortunately. I'm quite positive that someone with the right kind of frogs (who actually eat crickets on a regular basis) will have a blast with this product and it's amazing features (super supplement, fun glow in the dark abilities, and light powder texture).

The calcium part is great and similar to other supplements I’ve used. That said, the powder itself is pretty thick and messy, and I’m still a little skeptical about feeding my reptiles something that glows—even if it’s safe. Plus, you really need a black light for the glow to show, which I don’t love using too often since it can mess with their day/night cycle. Overall, neat idea, but I’ll probably stick with regular calcium powder.

Not my favorite calcium powder
I have been using this powder for about a month now. My reptiles seem to eat their coated insects just as they do with other powders, so they seem to notice no difference
I have been using this powder for about a month now. My reptiles seem to eat their coated insects just as they do with other powders, so they seem to notice no difference. I cannot comment on health benefits versus other calcium powders but I have not noticed any deterioration in my pets' activities or energy levels since I began using this powder. I do find the powder less convenient to use than other brands of calcium powder. It is very thick and "goopy", for lack of a better word, which means that it is difficult to effectively coat feeder insects and sequester the excess powder. I also question why we need to have glowing insects...this is a benefit directed squarely at humans rather than @ the reptiles for which this powder is designed. I will not use this powder again. I think there are better options available which are less gimmicky and easier to use.

Cool product, but a little gimmicky!
Definitely a cool product. I already owned a black light for my maui millipedes, so I gave this a try. I don’t think I would have gotten this if I didn’t own a black

I don’t think I would have gotten this if I didn’t own a black light already since I would also have to get one. It absolutely glows under black light. The shaker container makes it easy to coat your feeder insects. Cool to watch if you feed at night, which I normally don’t do with my geckos - usually before all the lights go out. It is still a well rounded calcium supplement but does lack D3 which I prefer for my reptiles for calcium absorption. It has some other ingredients as well which makes me hesitate to use it for every feeding.

It seems to work pretty well – I've noticed he spots them a bit faster in his tank when it's dark. Plus, it's got calcium in it, which is a nice bonus. You just have to be a little careful when you use it because the powder is super fine. But overall, it seems like a decent way to make sure your nocturnal buddy gets fed.
